A s early as in the sixties of the past century,
BAHAMA® designers gave proof of the justi-
fication of their thesis whereas large dimensi-
ons, modular design, operational functio-nali-
ty, structural stability, and an elegant visual
appearance would not necessarily have to pre-
clude one another .

BAHAMA® JUMBRELLA is still holding
the image of the pioneer structure as well
as being the architectural quality leader
worldwide:
7
8
In the beginning, there wasn’t but the vision
of an ultra-sized yet ready-to-erect foldable
fabric structure that was to become perfect
in every respect. Its aesthetic architecture, its
modular producibility, and its resulting value-
for-the-money price level had been in the lime-
light. Eventually, the evolutionary realization
of that very vision ended up with the variety
of models, sizes, editions, and options offered
from the BAHAMA® JUMBRELLA line
nowadays.
9
With a choice of some 30 different plain
colour shades for the fabric, with the membrane
editions »contemporary« (architectural style)
or »traditional« (with surround valance) to
select from, additionally considering a choice
of 3 basicly different footing systems/devices,
the 12 different-shape & -size basic models of
the JUMBRELLA line sum up to a total of no less
than 2,160 potential ordering & production
versions. If in addition to this the choosable
variety of optional equipment such as
BAHAMA® LIGHT, and/or BAHAMA®
HEATER, and/or BAHAMA® SOUND, and/or
BAHAMA® PRINT is taken into account, the
selection of theoretically choosable, however,
none the less practicable JUMBRELLA unit
variations gets up to some 5,000.
10
11
12
Since mid of the nineties, all JUMBRELLA
structures are being factory-equipped with
the TÜV-certified driveless »BAHAMA®
Servo- Kinematics«, a servo-assisted, mainte-
nance-free, fail-safe (manual) operating system
to unfold & tension the fabric structure. This
operating system is based on the manufac-
turer’s international patents that have been
registered in over 30 European and overseas
countries including e.g. the US, Canada, and
Japan. Nobody once having experienced that
unfolding & refolding mechanism will ever
interest himself in any other system again.

of Portable Universal Foot. The locking block in
front [with cylinder lock engaged, masterkey still on]
blocks the large solid-metal disc so that the foot
cannot be taken to pieces. Furthermore, it prevents
the parasol from being removed from its foot by unau-
thorized hands.

foundation drawing coming with. The removable
heavy-duty aluminium ”traffic cover” prevents the
sleeve component from being penetrated by fresh
10 concrete during and/or surface water after com-
pletion of concreting works. The yellow bottom cap
must stay put on as the sleeve component is cast in
flush with finished ground level.
12 Underground receiving sleeve component as in
picture 11, however, with its heavy-wheel load ”traffic
cover” removed only for imminent installation of the
JUMBRELLA. As the black rubber ring gets under
calculated pressure by either the tightened traffic
cover or the pressure ring, it prevents surface water
from penetrating the receiving sleeve. Contrary to the
underground sleeve component which is usually
supplied ahead, the white above-ground components
of the sleeve set come factory-prefixed at bottom end
of the parasol’s telescopic column.

JUMBRELLA model selected) suitable for being
bolted onto existing solid concrete ground by using
HILTI heavy-load bolts, or onto thick timber planks
by using heavy-duty coach bolts (e.g. DIN 603).
Footing devices are made of massive steel welded,
hot-dipped, and additionally powder-coated and
baked at >200° C in white (RAL 9016).
15 As characteristic as unparalleled worldwide is the
undetachable stainless-steel BAHAMA® brand plate
with the unmistakable serial production number
”SNR” durably engraved. Beside the current serial
production number which is not only compellingly
demanded by underwriters and leasing or, generally,
financing corporations, the SNR encompasses quite
a lot of factory-encoded data and parameters such
as the historical ordering, production and shipping
12 date, the orderer’s identity, shape & size of the
JUMBRELLA, and so forth. A factory-new replace-
ment membrane, for instance, can be verified by the
manufacturer only after he has been advised by the
client of the SNR of the parasol which the new fabric
part is earmarked for definitely.
