Conclusion Reflection

My capstone project focuses on sharing Ethiopian culture and heritage which provides brief

overview of the cultural diversity and many languages spoken. I initiated my project to discuss the benefit

of having a national working language based on my experience. However, due to the limited supporting

evidence that I could find, and the concern that I have my project won’t be representative or relevant to

what I would like to present to my classmates, my project focused on Ethiopian culture and heritage. As a

solution to this challenge, I focused on the Ethiopian culture and heritage. Through this process, I gained

valuable knowledge and experience about the history of Ethiopia, its rules, famous athletes, and others.

The steps that I took to complete this project include the following: reading references, obtaining or

taking photos of artifacts that represent the culture, bring some Ethiopian food to share in class, go to

Little Ethiopia in Los Angeles, California, share information on some of the Ethiopian restaurants, and

sharing about my culture and learning about others. Some of the obstacles are related to timing and

finding useful or relevant evidence to my research topic. My visit to Little Ethiopia provided me with

evidences that I need to complete my project. I discussed with both peoples of ethiopian origin and others

who happened to be there during my visit. It was an eye opening experience for me to learn and interact

with other than people of Ethiopian origin who appreciate the Ethiopian culture and heritage. I brought

back with me photos of my visit which I have included in my blog. I now know more than I did when I

started this project, and I feel confident that I accomplished the goal of my objective even though there

was a slight change of the topic to focus on culture and heritage. I learned about myself that I have the

opportunity to experience cultural life in two different countries and be able to share with my you. I am

proud of my life experience and my cultural background. Based on the limited resource I have, I wouldn’t

have done anything differently. I think my project has increased the awareness of my audience about the

Ethiopian culture and heritage. With sufficient resource and time, I would explore the Ethiopian culture

and heritage with sufficient documentations that include interviews, library research, and even going to
Ethiopia to bring accurate, representative and relevant information. Any senior student who plans to do a

capstone project needs to evaluate different topics for a project based on the availability of supporting

materials and interest in the project.
