BC FIRST UNVEILS “MADE IN BC ENERGY”
POLICY
Port
Coquitlam
–
BC
First
Spokesman
Chris
Delaney
says
his
party
is
unveiling
a
new
“Made
in
BC”
Energy
Policy
proposal
as
the
first
of
several
policy
ideas
to
be
launched
by
the
new
party
in
the
coming
weeks.
Delaney
says
his
party
is
consulUng
with
a
number
of
people
to
develop
a
series
of
key
policies
in
a
plaVorm
that
will
go
to
the
BC
First
founding
convenUon
in
the
spring
of
2011,
to
be
debated
and
voted
on
by
the
members.
“Energy
is
the
lifeblood
of
any
economy.
Here
in
BC
we
have
abundant
energy
resources,
but
they
are
being
badly
managed
by
the
current
government
to
the
point
where
it
is
damaging
not
only
consumers,
but
businesses
as
well,”
said
Delaney.
“Specifically,
we
have
seen
the
slow
and
deliberate
dismantlement
of
BC
Hydro
under
this
government
so
that
foreign
companies
are
now
controlling
a
greater
and
greater
share
of
the
operaUons
and
revenues
of
this
public
resource,
to
the
detriment
of
all
BriUsh
Columbians.
This
must

stop.”
Delaney
says
BC
First's
energy
policy
is
designed
to
restore
BC
Hydro
to
a
fully
public
company,
and
to
put
energy
development
and
ownership,
both
public
and
private,
back
in
the
hands
of
BriUsh
Columbians.
“Our
Made
in
BC
Energy
Policy
will
diversify
our
energy
producUon
and
put
control
of
it
back
in
the
hands
of
our
ciUzens.
This
will
be
a
key
plank
in
our
elecUon
plaVorm,
since
energy
is
the
fuel
of
the
enUre
economy.
When
managed
properly,
it
can
contribute
enormously
to
our
economic
well
being
and
business
compeUUveness,”
said
Delaney.
Delaney
says
BC
First’s
energy
policy
has
four
goals:
1.
Keeping
ownership
of
energy
resources
in
BC;
2.
Making
consumer
energy
costs
the
lowest
in
Canada;
3.
CreaUng
jobs
and
economic
acUvity
in
BC;
4.
Developing
sustainable
“green”
energy
alternaUves.
Following
is
the
BC
First
energy
plan:
BC
FIRST
ENERGY
BC
First
believes
BriUsh
Columbians
must
have
access
to
abundant
and
affordable
energy
that
is
owned
and
controlled
by
the
people
of
BC.
We
will
implement
a
“Made
in
BC”
energy
policy
that
will:
1.
Restore
BC
Hydro
as
a
fully
publicly
owned
and
controlled
crown
corporaUon.
2.
Create
a
“BC
Heritage
Fund”
using
a
porUon
of
convenUonal
resource
revenues
to
invest
in
“new”
energy
technology
and
jobs
to
make
BC
the
world
leader
in
sustainable,
alternaUve
energy.
3.
Support
“BC
based”
ownership
and
distribuUon
of
all
energy
in
both
the
public
and
private
sectors,
with
a
mandated
evaluaUon
of
all
projects
for
economic
cost,
benefit
and
job
creaUon.
4.
Provide
incenMves
for
the
creaMon
and
use
of
“green
energy”
technologies
by
individuals
and
small
businesses
such
as
solar,
wind,
biodiesel
and
geothermal
to
help
reduce
polluUon,
lower
energy
costs,
and
increase
individual
choice
in
energy.
