A Detailed Lesson Plan

In Science for Grade 9 – Dalton

Prepared by: Rolalen Joyce C. Paiton
I. Objective
General Objective: Describe the Uniformly Accelerated Motion (UAM)
qualitatively and quantitatively.
Specific Objective: Solve problems related to motion with uniform
acceleration in vertical dimension.

C. Instructional Materials:

D. Value Integration: Honesty and Discipline
E. Science Concepts:
The most familiar example of motion with (nearly) constant
acceleration is a body falling under the influence of the earth’s
gravitational attraction. Experiment shows that if the effects of the air
can be neglected, all bodies at a particular location fall with the same
downward acceleration, regardless of their size or weight. The
constant acceleration of a freely falling body is called the acceleration
𝑚
due to gravity and has a value of approximately 9.8 𝑠2 .

III. Procedure
Teacher’s Activity Students’ Activity
A. Preliminary Activities
“Good morning class! “Good morning ma’am!”

“Please stand everyone for the

prayer and may I request Joe (students pray)
to lead the prayer.
“Is anyone absent today?”

B. Lesson Review
“What did we discuss “We discussed about Equations for
yesterday?” Uniformly Accelerated in Horizontal
Dimension.”

“What equation you may use in

problems that do not directly "𝑣𝑓 = 𝑣𝑖 + 𝑎𝛥𝑡 (Equation 1)”
involve displacement.”

“What equation will allow you

to determine the displacement
of an object moving with 1
ℎ=𝑣𝑖 𝑡+2 𝑎𝛥𝑡 2 (Equation 2)
uniform acceleration given a
value for acceleration rather
than a final velocity?”

“What equation you may use in “𝑣𝑓 2 = 𝑣𝑖 2 + 2𝑎ℎ(Equation 3)

problems that do not directly

involve time?”

𝑣𝑖 +𝑣𝑓
“ℎ = ( )𝛥𝑡 (Equation 4)”
“What equation you will use to 2

determine the displacement of

an object that is undergoing
uniform acceleration.”

C. Lesson Proper

1. Motivation

“May I request Faith and

Missy to come to the front?”
“Missy, get the ball and drop
it.”
“Class what have you
observe as Missy dropped
the ball.” “It falls to the ground.”
(Missy drops the ball.)

“Very good.”
“Faith, get the other ball and
throw it upward.”
(Faith throws the ball
upward)

“What have you observe as

Faith throw the ball “It also falls to the ground.”
upward?”

“Why did the ball fall to the

ground when Missy dropped (students think)
it and Faith throw the ball
upward?”

2. Presentation

“The answer to the question

has something to do with
our topic today which is the
Uniform Accelerated Motion
in Vertical Dimension”

(Presentation of objectives)
Objectives:
The learners should be able
to:
• Solve problems related
to motion with uniform
acceleration in vertical
dimension.
“Please read the objective.”

“Thank you.” (students read the objective)

3.Discussion

“Let us have an activity

first.”

“Joe, please distribute the (Joe distributes the activity sheet)

activity sheets.”
“Go to your respective
groups and get the
materials in the table.”

“Listen to the instruction

carefully because I won’t
entertain questions after I
give the instruction.”

“Perform the activity at the

corridor. Divide your group
into 2 subgroups, the 3
members will perform
Activity 2 and the other
members will perform
Activity 3. For Activity 2
drop the ball and using your
cellphones record the time it
takes for the ball to hit the
ground. Do this for 3 trials
and record your data in
Table 2. Using the formula
1
ℎ= 𝑎 𝑡2,
2 𝑔
calculate the
height of each trial and put
your answer in Table 2
under Height.” “Using the
formula vf=at and 𝑣𝑓 =

√2𝑎𝑔 ℎ use the data in Table

2. After that, answers the
questions.”

“For activity 3, throw the ball

upward and catch it as it falls.
Using a cellphone as your
stopwatch, record the time it
takes for you to catch the ball.
Record your data in Table 3
under Total Time. Divide the
values Total Time by 2 and put
it in column 3. Calculate the
velocity and height and put
your answer in Table 4.
Answer the questions.

“The rubric for your activity is

accuracy is 30 points, If you
finish on time you have 10
points and teamwork is 10
points. A total of 50 points.”

“You can start your activity.” (Students perform the Activity)

“Time is up pass your activity

sheets.”

“What is the reason why all “It is because of the gravity”

objects fall to the ground?”

All objects fall to the ground

because of gravity.”

“Gravity is a force the pulls an object

“Very good. What is gravity?”
to the ground.”

“Very good. What is “The uniform acceleration of an

acceleration due to gravity?” object in a gravitational field.”
𝑚
“That is true. What is the value “acceleration due to gravity = 9.8 ”
𝑠2
of gravitational acceleration?”

“Do all objects have the same

gravitational acceleration?”

“Who says yes? Who says (students raise their hands)

no?”

“To know if all objects have the

same gravitational
acceleration let us take a look
at this video.”
(shows the video)

“The feather and the ball fall together

“What have you seen in the

video?”

“Acceleration due to gravity is

the same for all objects,
regardless of their weight,
provided that the effects of air
resistance are not significant.”

“It is valid only near the

surface of the earth.”

“The motion of a falling object

“What is free fall?”
affected only by acceleration due to
gravity.”

(Shows picture) “The velocity is increasing as the ball

“What have you observe in the falls the ground.”
picture?”

“That is true.”

“What happen when you throw

a ball upward?”
“When you throw a ball
upward, The velocity of an
object thrown upward first
decreases due to the pull of
gravity, passes through zero at
the high point, and as the
object falls then increases.”

“These are the Equations that

we will use in solving problems
related to uniform accelerated
motion in vertical dimension.”

(Shows table)

“Let as solve some examples.”

1.A steel ball is dropped from

a diving platform (with an initial
velocity of zero). Using the
value 𝑎_𝑔=-9.8 𝑚/𝑠^2
a. What is the velocity of the
ball 0.8 second after its
release?
b. What is the height of the ball
0.8 s after its release?

“Let us solve letter a.”

“Very good. Let us Solve the

problem. Let take h as
negative since the
displacement is downward”

Solution:
𝑣𝑓 = 𝑣𝑖 + 𝑎𝑔 + t
𝑚

𝑣𝑓 − 𝑣𝑖
𝑡=
𝑎𝑔
𝑚
0 − 16
𝑡= 𝑠

IV. Evaluation
Richard was mad at his sister so he took her iPhone and dropped it out the
window of his third story bedroom. If the bedroom window is 8.75 above the
ground, determine the time required for the iPhone to reach the ground.

𝑣𝑖 = 0
𝑠
Required: t
Solution:
1
ℎ = 𝑣𝑖 𝑡 + 𝑎𝑔 𝑡 2

−8.75𝑚 = 0 + (−9.8 2 )𝑡 2
2 𝑠

−8.75𝑚
𝑡2 = 𝑚
−4.9 2
𝑠
𝑡 2 = 1.79𝑠 2
𝑡 = 1.34s
