1.0 Room Data Sheets
The FPU Schedules of Accommodation by Role Delineation Levels (RDL) includes listings of
Standard Room Types required. In order to assist designers to better understand the
requirements of each room type, the HAAD Guidelines includes a comprehensive set of
Standard Components. These Standard Components are represented by two sets of
documents:
These are written descriptions of each room type, described under various categories:
Room Primary Information; includes Briefed Area, Occupancy, Room Description and
relationships, and special room requirements)
Building Fabric and Finishes; identifies the fabric and finish required for the room ceiling,
floor, walls, doors, and glazing requirements
Furniture and Fittings; lists all the fittings and furniture typically located in the room
Fixtures and Equipment; includes all the serviced equipment typically located in the room
along with the services required such as power, data, hydraulics
Building Services; indicates the requirement for communications, power, Heating,
Ventilation and Air conditioning (HVAC), medical gases, nurse/ emergency call and
lighting along with quantities and types as relevant
The Room Data Sheets (RDS’s) represent the detailed briefing requirements of each room
type. Some RDS’s provide options for certain elements such as materials. If an external
document refers to these RDS’s, without qualifying the choice of options, then the default
options will prevail. In case of any discrepancy between various documents, the RDS’s will
take precedence.
Where materials or elements are mentioned by generic type (eg Vinyl), the requirements may
be satisfied by other materials and elements which have very similar properties (eg impervious
sheet flooring).

Room Data Sheets Instructions for Use
Room Data Sheets are a briefing document providing information on the minimum requirements for each room in the
facility incorporating Room Details, Room Fabric, Fittings and Furniture, Fixture, Equipment with associated services
and Services.
Room Details:
This section includes Room Name, Hours of Operation and Occupancy as well as the following:
Room Tag:
This is a room number allocated for briefing purposes only. The number is not re-used if the room is deleted and is
moved with the room if an area is re-planned. It should not be confused with the Room Label/ Room Number
which may be the final room identifier indicated in the Signage Package.
Room Area:
Room Area and circulation is the target for planning only. The builder should build rooms to sizes shown
on the plans not Room Data Sheets.
Also covers these rooms:
Indicates all other room numbers (with the same room name) which have identical room requirements - this avoids
repeating the same information for every similar room.
Special Requirements:
Includes any special provisions that the room requires which may include requirements for locking, special air
conditioning, acoustic requirements and additional regulations or Australian Standards the room must comply with
- such as Body Protected electrical requirements. These requirements are mandatory.
Amendments:
All reviews to the Room Data Sheets are dated and changes identified.
Room Fabric
This section includes the acceptable room fabric requirements for floors, skirtings, walls, celings , cornice and
identifies wall protection, handrails and door protection where required. Door protection should be assumed to be
applied to both sides of doors to the room nominated. Fabric types are identified in generic terms only - Brands are
generally not nominated.
Fittings and Furniture
This section lists all fittings (items which are attached to walls or floors) and loose furniture items required in each
room. These items are identified with an ID number, a description and the quantity required. All items are identified
with a group number which indicates who is responsible for providing the item according to a health industry wide
accepted description as follows:

Services
This section lists all services requirements for the room including communications outlets (telephone, data, etc) air
conditioning, exhaust, special hydraulics such as floor wastes, lighting, medical gases, nurse call outlets and power.
Quantities are indicated where appropriate; not every item requires a quantity to be identified such as air conditioning.
Provision of Services items listed is mandatory.

Care, Rehabilitation and High Dependency. The additional floor area
allows for larger or additional furniture and equipment. It also permits
overnight stay by relatives. Natural light and outlook is essential; the room
requires the ability to view out of the window from either the chair or bed.
Bedrooms for Palliative Care may also include a beverage making area
with a small refrigerator.

The ADL Bathroom provides for training of patients to use a domestic bath,

and handbasin and a separate shower within the room. A low height
