We provide
what you want
Since 1976, HHI has focused on continually improving its ability to
design, construct, install and commission offshore projects on an
EPIC basis. Today, our experience ranges from conventional platform
and pipeline field developments to state-of-the-art FPSO projects.

Our motto is to design facilities that our client really want.

We strive to develop the means to effectively build, deliver and
commission the project.

Kizomba A FPSO

FPSO(Floating Production Storage & Off-Loading)

The recent emphasis in offshore deepwater projects has led to an increased demand for
floating production systems such as FPSOs, FSOs, FPUs, PDQs, etc. These projects are
ideally suited for HHI, since it meets the need for hull structure fabrication with topside
process module fabrication. HHI entered the FPSO market in 1996 with two EPC contracts
from Petrobras for the conversion of a VLCC and a VLOO to complete the P-33 and P-35
FPSOs. Both FPSO units were successfully commissioned and are being operated in the
Marlim field of the Campos Basin, offshore Brazil. Given the successful on-time delivery of
the P-33 and P-35 FPSOs, the MPG consortium awarded HHI a contract for the fabrication of
the Girassol FPSO for Total in the Block 17 field, offshore Angola. The Girassol project
represents the most sophisticated FPSO built to date, with over 2MM barrels of storage and a
production rate of 250,000-bopd.

Total subsequently awarded HHI a contract for the fabrication of the Amenam FSO. However,
rather than constructing the hull in a shipbuilding drydock, HHI has constructed the
structure on the ground at the fabrication yard. The construction methods that permit the
hull structure to be built in the fabrication yard have added value for both the client and HHI.
Given the advantages of avoiding the need to schedule a drydock slot, and given the
advantages of all fabrication being controlled within one construction organization, HHI
expects this construction method to be adopted as a standard within the industry.

Continuing the line of subsequent projects, ExxonMobil was a partner of Total for the
Girassol FPSO project, and ExxonMobil subsequently awarded HHI the EPIC contract for two
2.2-MMB Kizomba FPSOs in 2001 and 2002. With an expected weight in excess of 80,000-
tons, the Kizomba FPSO will be among the heaviest structures ever built and transported.

HHI believes the track record of the P-33, P-35, Girassol, Amenam and Kizomba FPSOs not
only demonstrates HHI’s construction capabilities for floating production systems, but also
shows our record for fostering a continual working relationship with our clients.

Transocean (Formally R&B Falcon), Deepwater Nautilus

Semi-Submersible Unit
Semi-submersible drilling rigs have been traditionally built in a drydock. However, starting
with the BP Harding PDQ project in 1993 and the Troll C FPU hull project in 1998, HHI has
developed construction methods that will allow these hull-type structures to be built on land,
and safely loaded onto a dock-side transport vessel.

For the construction of a drilling semi-submersible, one additional construction method had
to be developed, now known as the Super-Lift operation. The Super-Lift operation involves
building the complete deck of the floating facility at ground elevation. Thereafter, the entire
deck is lifted in the Super-Lift operation, and then the two supporting pontoon sections are
skidded underneath from opposite sides. After the pontoons are properly positioned, the
deck is lowered for mating and weld-out.

HHI initially applied the Super-Lift deck mating operation to the 11,000-ton integrated deck
of the Reading & Bates semi-submersible Deepwater Nautilus. Given the success of the
fabrication program of the Deepwater Nautilus, Reading & Bates awarded HHI a contract for
a second semi-submersible, the Deepwater Horizon. The Super-Lift for the Deepwater
Horizon was even larger at 15,000 tons, and the unit was delivered in December 2000.

HHI was awarded a contract from Shell for the Na Kika FPU in 2001 which was delivered in
2003. Similar to the Deepwater Nautilus and the Deepwater Horizon, the Na Kika FPU was
constructed onshore and loaded onto a transport vessel for delivery to the Gulf of Mexico.
For Na Kika, the four topside modules was lifted as an integral Super-Lift of 12,112-tons. The
onshore construction method allowed the unit to be built at one location, as compared to the
client having to award separate hull and topsides contracts, and/or potentially integrating
the hull and topside at the offshore location.

These construction methods have not only expanded the traditional market of the Offshore
and Engineering Division of HHI, but it has also benefited our clients, since it allows us to
consider fabrication programs that (1) are not tied to the tight schedule windows of
shipbuilding drydock slots and/or (2) avoid an offshore topside and hull integration operation.
We believe this is an example of creative construction methods of being able to produce a
"win-win" situation for both HHI and its clients.

BP Harding PDQ Jack-up Platform

Jack-up Platform/Drilling Rig

The fabrication programs for the semi-submersible drilling rigs built upon the earlier
techniques allowed HHI to fabricate jack-up drilling rigs onshore. Traditionally, moving these
hull-type structures outside the marine environment would cause the hulls to be over-
stressed during the operations. HHI overcame this limitation by supporting the hull on
hydraulically activated skidshoes during the loadout operation, thereby allowing the
deflections and deformations of the foundations and transport vessel to be accommodated
by movements in the hydraulic supports, as opposed to otherwise creating overstress
conditions in the structure. HHI has recently completed four major jack-up production
platforms using these concepts:

BP Harding PDQ. In July 1995, HHI completed the on-time delivery of the BP Harding PDQ
jack-up weighing about 24,300-tons. After a successful loadout operation using the
hydraulically compensated skidshoes, the rig was transported to the BP Harding field in
the North Sea by the dry transport vessel M/V Transshelf.

Conoco West Natuna Hang Tauh Platform. In May 2001, HHI completed the fabrication,
installation, hook-up and commissioning of Conoco's movable Hang Tauh jack-up
production platform. The Hang Tauh platform was composed of a topside and a steel
gravity base, constructed as an integral unit at the HHI Ulsan fabrication yard. The jack-up
system utilized strand cables and strand jacks to lift and lower the topsides deck assembly
on the platform legs that were attached to the steel gravity base.

AP Moller Jack-up Drilling Rigs, 2-units. In July 2002, HHI delivered an ultra-large jack-up
drilling rig to AP Moller, Denmark. The Maersk Innovator was designed and constructed
suitable for a harsh North Sea environment using 100-ksi materials with jacking rails that
were 210-mm thick. The nominal dimensions of the 26,000-ton rig are 102-m (L) by 88-m
(W) by 205-m (leg height), or about the same height as a sixty story building. After AP
Moller had confirmed the efficiency of the on-ground construction methods, HHI was
awarded an option for the second jack-up drilling rig.
