Detailed Lesson Plan

In
Math V

I. Objectives
At the end of the discussion, the students are expected to:
a. Interpret a data using line graph
b. Analyze data using line graph
c. Construct a line graph

II. Subject Matter

Topic: Line Graph
Materials: illustrations, tarp papel
Reference: math book p. 336-344

III. Procedure

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

A. Preparatory Stage
i. Prayer (The students will pray)
ii. Greetings -Good afternoon teacher!
iii. Checking
Attendance

B. Review/Motivation
Present a data in a form of
bar graph showing the
different temperature of the
day.
Use the graph to answer the
questions about it.

The student will answer the questions.

a. What was the lowest temperature of the
day? the highest temperature?
b. At what time of the day the temperature
was coolest? warmest?
c. How many degrees is the difference
between the highest and lowest
temperature?
d. What do you call this kind of graph?
C. Presentation of the Lesson
Use the same illustration above
in introducing the new lesson.
- Using the illustration, we will
try to plot the data using a line
graph.

1. Introduction
-Let us first define line graph. The students will read the definition of line graph in their
book and the definition posted on the board.
- A line graph is a kind of graph that uses lines to show the
trends or changes over a period of time.
A line graph has a title, one kind of information on the
x-axis and another kind of information on the y-axis.

2. Interaction
-Now that we know the
meaning of line graph, let us
study how to construct it. The students will read and follow the steps in constructing a
line graph while the teacher shows how to do it.
The teacher will show to her
students on how to construct a Steps in Constructing a Line Graph
line graph. 1. Draw the lines for the x-axis and the y-axis.
2. Use the data from the table to label the axes.
3. Plot the points that correspond to each variable in the
table.
4. Connect the points with a line segment.
5. Put the title on the graph.

The teacher will call students

to plot the given points on the
grid.

(x, y)
1) (0, 40) 2) (5, 110)
3) (1, 60) 4) (6, 120)
5) (2, 80) 6) (7, 130)
7) (3, 90) 8) (8, 140)
9) (4, 10) (9,
100) 150)

Call on a pupil to connect all

the plotted points on the grid.
Label the data presented on
the x and y axes and put a title.
- What do you think will be (The output must be the graph below.)
formed?
The teacher will explain
why such is called a line
graph. The teacher will
guide the pupils to see
these features: titles, the x
and y-axes and what data
are presented in each of
the axes.

The teacher will ask more

questions to her students about
the graph. The pupils will answer more questions about the graph.
1) How tall was Maricel when she was 6 years old?
2) How old was Maricel when she was 110 cm tall?
3) What was the difference between Maricel’s height
when she was 3 years old and 7 years old?
4) What was the total increase in Maricel’s height from
the time she was born until the time she was 9 years old?
3. Integration
Group the class into 2 and
answer the given questions.

Group 1

Group 2

D. Generalization
Why are line graphs useful?
-Line graph helps one see easily and clearly the changes
in the data presented.
What are the parts of a line
graph?
-A line graph has a title, one kind of information on the
x-axis and another kind of information on the y-axis.
How do you interpret data
presented in a line graph?
-In reading and interpreting the data presented in a line
graph, we usually compare the data in terms of size and
amount or quality presented.

IV. Evaluation

1. How many schools were constructed in 1996?

2. How many more schools were constructed in 1998 than in 1997?
3. How many schools were constructed from 1996 to 2000?

V. Assignment
Below are the results of Third Grading Tests in a Grade V class. Present these results on the
line graph.
