To whom it may concern:

Good day! I am writing this letter to inquire if the following concerns I am about to present are
reasonable grounds for an instructor under your department to be reprimanded or given any
consequence. I am under the Process Dynamics and Control class of Engr. Rommel Galvan.

At around 4:45 PM last February 2, 2019, Professor Galvan had already uploaded all of our
scores and our final grade in that course. We have noticed that my group’s design project rating was low
considering that additional points would have been added to it because the whole class attended a
school activity. Later on, we compared my group’s rating to the other groups with the same topic and
set of data and I found out that our rating was lower than theirs. I contacted and asked Professor Galvan
about this matter. He mentioned that the raw rating of our design project was low because he said the
data from the simulation that we used was incorrect. I did not understand why our rating was low
because the other groups used the same data but they had higher ratings. So, I later asked him if the
raw rating was the same for the other groups with the same topic. He did not answer the question but
instead, he asked me if I want a grade of 2.0 (my present final grade is 1.75). He then later said that I am
not contented with my grade so he will change the whole class’ seatwork scores. He also mentioned
things that, in my opinion, should not be included in the conversation (“Buti nga sa inyo lahat pumasa
eh. Sa kabila kaya may bumagsak”, “walang plus points sa board exam ha.”, “sana plus points nalang
nilagay ko at hindi totoong grade niyo”). I then explained that I was not inquiring about the additional
points, but the reason why our raw rating was low.

He then sent me a screenshot of the final exam scores of the class and said “kawawa naman
yung 6 kung nagkataon. Wala eh. Di ko rin kayo naturuan to care for other people. Medyo nagging
makasarili tayo eh. Ganun nalang ha”, implying that if ever he changes the scores for our class activities,
there were a minimum of 6 students who will not be able to pass and it would look like I was the reason
because he implies that I was selfish because of what I did.

Attached in this letter are the screenshots of the conversation I had with Professor Galvan.

I would like to inquire if this way of addressing students’ concerns is proper for an instructor or
if he should be reprimanded. I would also like to request that the department would take action in
reprimanding this instructor if this is not the proper way of dealing with students. I am also requesting, if
you would permit, that my identity be left unexposed if ever Professor Galvan asks about who has
inquired. Thank you very much.

Sincerely yours,

Alex Angelo Medina
