General Sealed System diagnosis information

General Refrigeration Example below of 2 low side leaks. In both cases, high side
Rules pressure was very high (200-250 PSI) and amp draw was
1. Under normal conditions, low side and high side also high (around an amp).
pressures follow one another. Reason: after defrost the compressor sucked moisture into
--If high side pressure goes up, low side pressure follows the system.
--If low side pressure goes up, high side pressure follows
MOISTURE DOES NOT BELONG
2. Heat load has greatest effect on low side pressure IN A SEALED SYSTEM!!!
-- As heat load increases, both low and high side pressures
go up
-- As heat load is decreased, pressures go down

3. Ambient conditions have greatest effect on high side

pressures
-- As ambient temperature rises, condenser temperatures
increase
-- Higher condenser temperatures mean higher low side
temperatures and pressures and reduced ability to absorb
heat

4. Compressor running wattage/amperage reflects how much

work the compressor is performing

5. How much work the compressor is doing is dependent on

heat load and ambient conditions

_______

Finding Steady-State Pressure and Temperatures

_______

High Side Leak

_______

Normal Condition
_______
Low Side Leak- Refrigerant still left in the system

*Liquid level will depend on how much refrigerant still lef

in system
**Compressor run wattage, pressures and temperatures of
Evaporator and Condenser dependent on how much
refrigerant is left in system
***Frost on Evaporator and liquid level in condenser
depends on how much refrigerant left in system

Low Side Leak- Air in system
