Here is a brief list of piano or other private music teachers we would recommend: it is not a complete list,
however, we have heard from folks who are pleased with their students’ level of achievement. There are many
more fine teachers in the area. If these recommendations do not work out, talk to other parents or check the yellow
pages.
Students’ needs are different. When choosing a teacher, make sure you have a clear definition of what you are
looking for from music lessons. For example, are you looking for a teacher heavily into strict technique and
classical training, or something lighter? Not all teachers are for all students. Choose carefully so you and your
child will have the maximum amount of enjoyment from the experience. Remember, no matter the teacher, your
child will have to practice and you will need to oversee these practice sessions at the beginning. GOOD LUCK!

** NOTE: Northville Elementary Music Teachers do not recommend that elementary students take voice lessons.
Their vocal muscles aren’t developed enough at this age, so lessons could do more harm than good. Voice lessons
are more appropriate for students who have reached puberty. Lessons on any instrument will help the students’
inner hearing/audiation which will help make them better singers as well. Youth choirs are also a wonderful option
for the young voice.
**Broughton Music Center in Northville offers a variety of lessons for various instruments.
