people valued and believed?
Identify the major regions of the world in which these changes occurred.

we see in the eras that follow this time period? What impacts can we still see or feel
today?

The Life of a Civilian In a Crisis

World War I took place between 1914 and 1918. Although the conflict began in Europe,
it involved countries as far away as the United States and Japan. World War I led almost directly
to World War II and set the stage for many other important events in the twentieth century.
Nearly 9 million soldiers died in battle, and civilian lives lost totaled an additional 13 million. In
total, counting battle casualties, civilian deaths, and victims of disease, the loss of life worldwide
surpassed 40 million.

World War II was fought between two main opposing forces, the Allies and the
Axis forces. The Axis powers; Germany, Italy, and Japan being the most dominant. On the other
hand, some of the countries in the Allied powers were Great Britain, the United States, France,
Australia, New Zealand, India, the Soviet Union, Canada, and Greece. At the end of World War
II, huge swaths of Europe and Asia had been reduced to ruins. When the war began in the late
1930s, the world's population was approximately 2 billion. In less than a decade, the war
between the Axis the Allied powers had resulted in 80 million deaths -- killing off about 4
percent of the whole world.

Both wars caused horrible damage to many countries. Some countries were left in ruins.
Their land was destroyed and many civilians lost everything. The total war lasted 10 years total.
World War 1 lasted 4 years, while World War 2 lasted 6 years. Civilians had to rebuild cities,
homes, and gain back money they lost. Both World Wars greatly affected many countries.
