Background  

Pladur   is   the   leading   producer   of   plasterboard   and   drywall   systems   in   Spain   &  
Portugal.   Founded   in   1979   and   combined   with   the   strength   of   Uralita   Group,  
Pladur   has   an   in-­‐depth   knowledge   of   all   aspects   of   the   drywall   industry   from  
product  manufacturing  to  system  design.  

The  challenge  

Plasterboard  production  is  very  intensive  in  energy  and  water  consumption.  

Our   client   seeks   to   economically   recover   the   maximum   volume   of   water   from  
steam   to  be  reused  for  their  hydration  process,  at  a  lower  cost  compared  to  the  
cost  of  water  consumption  from  the  network.  
The   challenge   provides   information   related   to   the   manufacturing   process,   plant  
layout,  energy  and  water  consumption  and  waste.  

The  award  

The   winner   will   be   awarded   with   a   15000€   cash   prize   and   the   opportunity   to  
implement  the  solution.  Other  2  finalists  will  be  awarded  with  a  1.000€  cash  prize

Alternatives   t o   L ost  Wax  Casting  

Background  
Indra   develops   and   supplies   systems   for   aircrafts   that   include   parts   being  
produced  by  a  selected  outsourced  manufacturers  network.  
Some  complex   parts   are  produced   using  Lost  Wax   Casting.   This  method,  invented  
by   the   Akkadian   culture,   has   a   lot   of   advantages   such   precision   but   also   some  
disadvantages,  particularly  cost  and  flexibility  and  limited  number  of  suppliers  in  
the  market.  

The  challenge  
Indra  seeks  to  optimize  the  manufacturing  of  complex  parts:    

• Alternative  manufacturing  processes  to  Lost  Wax  Casting  

• Alternative  Lost  Wax  Casting  Suppliers  anywhere  around  the  world  

This  challenge  provides  a  part  specification  and  the  geometry  to  be  analyzed.
