2) Burrow nests : Nests in excavated, tunnels, earth banks, the tunnels are

driven horizontally into the ride of a stream. The bird using it’s bill to dig and
it’s feet to luick back. The loose earth, The tunnels are few inclus to several feet
in length and usually bent and near the extremely where they widen into a
bulbous egg chamber eg: King fislues, bee- eaters, etc. This provides two
advantages; protection from the elements and predators and a consistent
temperature for eggs and hatchlings.

3) Cavity nest : Some of the birds built nest in tree holes by it’s strong beak.
Trees provide excellent protection. These cavities allow birds to efficiently leeat
thin eggs and can provide a sturdy shelter in poor weather eg: wood peckers,
hornbills, owls etc.

4) Platform nests : Platform nests are most commonly used by large birds of
prey, like eagles, and ospreys, however, birds like egrets herones, and
cormorants also make use of these large nests, platform nests are, as the name
implies, elevated and flat. They can be found in trees or on top of tall
vegetation. Many platform nest builders add to their nest fear, after making it
very large. The largest bald eagle nest rounded weighed approximately two
tows, and measured 8 ½ feet in width.

5) Cupped nests : cupped nests are the traditional ardutype of a nest and the
most commonly and. Then nests resemble a bow or cup and can be constructed
of a number of materials. Most song birds build cupped nests, as do humming
birds, robins and some swifts.

6) Suspended nests or Pendent Nests : Baya weaver birds, tailor birds, Sun
birds, and flower pulaers build pendant nest of compactly woven fibres. Oriole
construct an intricate basket like nest using twig, thread etc. A tailor bird neatly
stitelus the edges devilry folded one or more large plart leaves with the threads
of wool or cotton by means of it’s pointed beak. This funnel shaped nests is
ultimately lined by soft fibres, cotton, wool and vegetables so that the nest
become comfortable. Male Baya makes basket like nest having ling thin passage
and a wide chamber. Half woven nest is linked inverted basket. Female baya
selects male baya during half woven nest. after courtship male baya completes
the nest, old nest is abandoned by baya and make new nest every year.

7) Floating nest : Jacanas an aquatic bird, makes their nest on floating leaf,
Mallard, Grebes, Moor Leens and coats also make floating nests.

8) Walled nests : House martins and common swallows secrete a cemented like
substance by salivary gland. They put this secretion on their feathers and make
walled nest wing cemented feathers.

Nesting in Weaver Bird:

Most of the weaver bird present in south Alia they are found in a gross
land cultured area. there are sparrow sized (15cm) and it as non- building
plumage both male and female resembles like home sparrow. They have stout
conical will and a short square tail. Breeding male has bright yellow crown and
dark brown. female lays about 2 to 4 white eggs and incubates them for about
14 to 17 days.

Construction :

The weaver bird collects the building materials. It will cost long stripes
from leaves as extract the midrib from a fresh given leaf. there is a reason for
it’s devoice of fruchleaves The veins of dry leaves would be stiff and brittle.
Too different to bend but fresh owl make the work much easier the weaver bird
begins by tying the leaf fibres around the twig of a tree with it’s foot, it holds
down one end of the strip against the twig while taking the other end in it’s
beak. to prevent the fiber from falling away it ties then together with knots.
Slowly it forms a circular shape that will become the entrance to the nest. Then
it uses it’s beak to weave the other fibers together. Once it finiclus weaving the
entrance it provides as to proceeds to weave the walls. to do so, it hangs upside
down and keeps on working from the inside of the structure. Before going on to
build the walls. It knows perfectly well where to form curve. Its behaviour
displays intelligence and slaill, with no trace of inexperience, with no training it
can do two things at once – holding down one end of the fibre with it’s feet,
while guiding the other end with it’s beak. This funnel shaped nest is ultimately
lined by soft fibirs, cotton, wool and vegetables so that the nest become
comfortable. Male Baya make booket like nest having a long thin passage and a
wide chamber. Half woven nest is likes inverted basket. Female Baya selects
male Baya during half woven nest. After courtship male baya completes the
nests. Old nest is abandoned by baya and make new nest every year.

Two types of sites are preferred for nesting by weaver birds.

1) Vegetation areas

2) Non-vegetation areas

A variety of trees, shrubs, lurbs, grasses, weeds etc. constitute the vegetation
sites linked by birds belongs to ploceus Philippines the typical normal nest of
weaver bird can be divided into 3 parts stalk, egg chamber and entrance tube.

Selection of site by weaver birds have prominent thoens, prickles, etc

which may deter predators are selected by weavers. In some cases trees,
themselves not being spiny but when surrounded by thick branches, may be
patronized by weavers. Many unbrached tall trees like palms have smooth of
very rough trunk, the long swaying leaves which not only keep away predators
but also provide a convenient source of leaf strips for weaving.

Nests on trees projecting as standing inside water are less liable to be

attacked by the terrestrial animals. Safety factor again favors the presence of
nest colonies of weavers on the sides of irrigation and open wells. vertical banks
of rivers and open wells. vertical banks of rivers and irrigation channels are
comparivtely safer places. Trees growing in and aling the side of following or
stagnant water offer, safer sites for nesting perhaps it is owing to this safety
factor. that the nests are often suspended from brandies haaing overwater. The
weaver bird hangs it’s nest according to the direction of the prevailing wind
direction when the egg chamber faces the wind direction, the eggs are safer
within, but if a nest built with the egg chamber side facing away from the wind
were strongly by tilted by wind. The eggs would roll into the entrance tube and
fall down.

Types of Weaver Bird Nest :

1) Normal nest : There are the complete nest, basically, monartoloid in

structure, having one egg chamber, stalk and entrance tube.

2) Blind : Some times nests are cloud, This type of nest having short stalk,
which consister of a look like spherical

3) Stomach – Shaped –nest

The normal nest stalk is towards the upper terminal position and all part
were long down vertically straight but in this type stalk is more or less
perpendicular to enlarnce due to abnormal position of stalk the nest look
like a human stomach.

4) Multi-storey nest :

The complete group of nest gradually processing more than 2 egg

chamber in a series of vertically more than one stored nest along with
vertical axis in a series.

5) Stalk less nest :

There nest are never accepted by female bird due to serlden completion of
nest by male shows major abnormalities. The nest are closed at the top
the body is attaclud to brandies directly with a mall look like stratus.

6) Clord nest :

There are completed or incomplete nest with resembles the blind nest net
there opening could not traced externally due to the pruence of mash on
the opening.

7) Cup – Shaped nest :

There are completed or in completed nest there are resemble to blandness

but their opening could be cup shaped due to the presence of only egg
chamber and entrance tube is absence.
