Experiment :Comparison of theoretical availability of Solar PV power and actual output of

Solar PV power of Korean Plant

Aim :To apply the theoretical knowledge to calculate the Solar power and find out the
practical issues for Solar PV generation

Data :A brief description of the plant comprising of 500kW solar PV array funded by
the Korean Government is given below

 Total Capacity- 500 kW

 Total panels in one string -22 (series connection)
 Voltage of one panel-30V
 Input voltage of an inverter = 30 x 22= 660V
 Total number of panels- 2156

Procedure :Collect the specification of the Solar panels; Inverter arrangement; and the layout
Draw the lay out diagrams.

Calculate the theoretical site parameters Power per each cluster etc..

Take the following real time measurements of each Solar PV sets 01, and 02 and
calculate the power at the given time.

Calculation:

Step 1 Calculate the total actual power generation from the Korean plant

Step 2 Calculate the theoretical power availability from the plant at the given
time. Use the equations in the lecture notes to find the Solar Insolation at
he given time and location for the given date.
Results:

Results:

1. Actual power generation

Conclusion:

Comment on the deviation of actual power output and theoretically available power of the plant
at the given time. Furthermore, the practical issues of the power system when large solar PV
plants are connected to the system.

Discussion:

Discuss about the followings in detail,

 Efficiency of solar panels
 Temperature effect for solar PV generation
 Compare the cell efficiency of the Japanese panels and the Korean Panels
describe the reasons for the difference.
 What are the different features of the two plants and discuss the relative merits
and demerits in the Korean plant.
