C F S D Governing Board Meeting
Super Volunteer Recognition
The governing board recognized Ingrid Klestadt as a
super volunteer. Board Member Carole Siegler
reviewed the volunteer efforts by Ingrid at Esperero
Canyon Middle School (ECMS) and previously at
Ventana Vista. Ms. Klestadt’s support of the Scholastic
Book Fair and chair of the ECMS Spelling Bee exemplify
the part of the CFSD mission about “a caring,
collaborative community.”
Approval of Revisions to Policy JJE Student
Fundraising Activities (second reading)
Superintendent Mary Kamerzell reviewed the proposed
revisions to the district’s current policy. A statement was
added about students using their personal devices when
taking part in school-sponsored electronic fund-raising
activities and/or solicitations. After the first reading on
February 12, the board recommended rewording the
language to clarify that students are not to use a
personal device to send personally identifiable
information of themselves and others to a third-party
vendor. The board approved the revisions, as
presented.
Approval of Revisions to Policy IJNDB and
Regulation IJNDB-R Use of Technology Resources
in Instruction (second reading)
Dr. Kamerzell reported that the main purpose of revising
the policy and regulation was to address the student use
of personal devices in school-sponsored electronic
fundraising activities. The proposed revisions to the
policy were to align with Policy JJE, Student Fundraising

Activities. “Proper use of personal devices” was added
about safety regarding the Internet. After the first
reading on February 12, a new statement was added to
align with Policy JJE to give clarity about the use of a
student’s personal device in fundraising activities. The
board approved the revisions, as presented.
Approval of Revisions to JLCB and Exhibit JLCB-E
Immunization of Students (second reading)
Dr. Kamerzell presented the second reading of the
proposed revisions to the policy and exhibit. Language
in the policy about specific immunizations was removed
because the language in the exhibit identified required
immunizations, and wording was revised about the 5-
day wait after enrollment of homeless students. Dr.
Kamerzell reviewed a couple of minor corrections since
the first reading on February 12. All other recommended
revisions from the first reading were not modified. The
board approved the revisions, as amended.
Pima County Board / Superintendent Collaborative
Meeting Report
President Amy Bhola and Board Member Eileen
Jackson shared information and discussed highlights
from the Pima County School Board/Superintendent
Collaborative Meeting held on February 18. The
meeting’s agenda focused on a presentation by Arizona
Association of School Business Officials (AASBO)
Director of Governmental Relations Chuck Essigs on
special education funding and the declining birth rate
and the corresponding decline in enrollment in many
schools across the country.
2019 Arizona Legislative / Governmental Activity
Board members discussed information about House Bill
2597 on establishing districtwide “safe school plans.”
The board also shared information on three Senate Bills
and the one House Bill passed in Senate Appropriations
on February 26.
