Solution Create an Alignment Adjustment Setting

NOTE: Adjustments can be made to the image based on the alignment output of a
document. Various adjustments can be modified, such as image position,
magnification, and skew.

The Alignment Adjustment setting is based on the type, size and weight of the paper.
For example, create a setting if you are experiencing skew while printing on Tabloid
(279 x 432 mm / 11 x 17 in.) coated stock.

1. Make sure the paper size and type that will be used to adjust the alignment is
loaded in the paper tray. See the Related Items below for additional information.
2. Press the [Log In / Out] button on the Control Panel. The System Administrator
Login screen will be displayed.

3. Enter the System Administrator Login ID using the numeric keypad on the
Control Panel, and then select the [Confirm] button on the Touch Screen.

NOTE: The System Administrator Login ID and UserID are "11111" by default.
If an error is made, press the [Clear (C)] button and re-enter the ID. To cancel
the operation, select [Cancel]. If the administrator has a problem with changing
the ID, or has forgotten the ID, a service call must be placed.

4. Press the [Machine Status] button on the Control Panel. The Machine Status
screen will be displayed.
5. Select the [Tools] tab.
6. Select the [System Settings] button. The System Settings screen will be
displayed.
7. Select the [Common Service Settings] button.
8. Select the [Maintenance Settings] button.
9. Select the [Alignment Adjustment Settings] button.
10. Select an unused type, and then select the [Change Settings] button.
11. Assign a useful name to this type by select the name from the list, and then
select the [Change Settings] button.

NOTE: It is recommended that a name such as “A4 Plain” or "11 x 17 Coated"

be used to clearly identify the paper size and type.

12. Select the [Save] button.

13. Print a sample printout to view the current settings.
1. Select [Sample Printout].
2. Select the paper tray that was loaded in step 1, and then select [1-Sided]
or [2-Sided] followed by the required number of sheets from the Number
of Sheets section.
3. Press the [Start] button on the Control Panel.
4. Select the [Confirm] button on the Touch Screen. A sample printout will
be printed.
14. Check the sample output, and adjust for Skew, Scale and Print positions using
the steps provided.
15. To adjust the Skew:

NOTE: Image skew can be adjusted using both the Perpendicularity and Skew
settings.

1. Select [Skew], and then select the [Change Settings] button.

2. Enter a value for skew between -1.0 mm and +1.0 mm in .1 mm
increments. A negative value, rotates the image to the right, while a
positive value, rotates the image to the left. Make sure to enter a value
for side 1 and side
3. Select the [Save] button.
4. Select [Perpendicularity], and then select the [Change Settings] button.
5. Enter a value for perpendicularity between -1.8 mm and +1.8 mm in .1
mm increments. A negative value moves the image to the right, while a
positive value moves the image to the left. Make sure to enter a value for
side 1 and side 2.
6. Select the [Save] button.
16. To adjust the Scale:
1. Check the sample output and measure the scale offset amount that
occurred.
„ X direction scale offset amount = image reference length in the X
direction - image actual measurement length in the X direction.
„ Y direction scale offset amount = image reference length in the Y
direction - image actual measurement length in the Y direction.
2. Select [X%] or [Y%], and then select the [Change Settings] button.
3. Enter the offset amount of the X direction scale you measured in step a
for Side 1 and Side 2 of X%.

NOTE: If the scale offset amount is positive, enter a negative value in the
adjustment value field. If negative, enter a positive value.

4. Enter the offset amount of the Y direction scale you measured in step a
for Side 1 and Side 2 of Y%.
5. Select the [Save] button.
17. To adjust the Print Positions:

NOTE: Adjust the position of the image in the lead edge and side edge
direction in relation to the paper feed direction by 0.1 mm increments for each
of side (sides 1 and 2). You can adjust up to 2.0 mm.

1. Check the sample output, and measure the print position offset amount
that occurred.

X Print Position: Specify a positive value when you want to move the
position of the image in the opposite direction to the paper feed direction,
and a negative value when you want to move the position of the image in
the paper feed direction.

Y Print Position: Specify a positive value when you want to move the
position of the image toward the back of the machine, and a negative
value when you want to move the position of the image toward the front
of the machine.

2. Select [X Print Position] or [Y Print Position], and then select the [Change
Settings] button.
3. Enter the value obtained by the difference X
measured in step a added as the current setting value of Side 1 and
Side 2 of X Print Position.
4. Enter the value obtained by the difference Y measured in step a added
as the current setting value of Side 1 and Side 2 of Y Print Position.
5. Select the [Save] button.
18. Repeat step 13 to print another sample and verify that the adjustments have
been made. If necessary, make additional adjustments as needed.
19. When no additional adjustments are required, select the [Close] button.
20. Select the [Exit] button.
