What I find truly irresistible in Fashion is its uni-

que way of opening up. Fashion is an art, but it is
one of the few art forms that involves everyone,
and appeals to all. Not all people are interested
in poetry or sculpture, but we all express oursel-
ves through our outfit choices, be it mindfully or
unconsciously. Fashion is everywhere, and is in
itself a hugely diverse world. It encourages inte-
raction with many different fields. Some of the-
se collaborations are natural: Fashion & Styling,
Fashion & Art direction, Fashion & Photography...
Others are unusual, and thus highly attracti-
ve – Fashion & Dance, Fashion & Chocolate,
Fashion & Architecture... This is what we have
been busy with this year: exploring new horizons!

The frenzies, the excitement, the stress, the
last minute preparations, the behind the sce-
nes race… they never subside. On the contrary,
they seem to increase. With every show dawns
a new pressure: it has to outdo preceding ones.
And after all, that is exactly why we love the Fa-
shion world. We love the Fashion world for the
everlasting, perpetual race against the clock,
so stressful yet so highly rewarding. With two
annual Couture fashion shows organized by
the Tony Ward team in Paris, and the nume-
rous other fashion shows in different countries
around the world such as Mexico, USA, Qatar,
China, to name a few, we never get used to the
process nor the feeling. It is never the same.
PARIS FASHION SHOW
This season, the Tony Ward Couture Spring Sum-
mer 2017 collection Aelia Eudocia was revealed
on January 23 in Paris at L’Oratoire du Louvre
during the Haute Couture Week. It was the col-
laboration of highly-skilled artisans and manu-
facturers; their hard work inside the studios and
ateliers of the House is what came to fruition.
They designed exclusive fabrics and embroide-
ries, developed new cuts and volumes, and used
special sewing techniques that only a handful of
Couture ateliers in Paris master, an added value
which is rarely exploited today. More than two
hundred hands have worked on this collection
in the Tony Ward ateliers, contributing their ex-
traordinary skills to such a unique collection.

Who is Aelia Eudocia?
Aelia Eudocia, the Muse behind the Spring
Summer 2017 Collection, was a Byzantine wo-
man who refused to settle for injustice. Em-
powered by her love and knowledge of Litera-
ture, she stepped up bravely when difficulties
rose and went to Constantinople to ask for
justice in the imperial court. Her strength im-
pressed the young emperor Theodosius II who
fell in love with her and married her. Charmed
by her avant-garde and unconventional jour-
ney, Tony Ward reflected her boldness and
modernity in his designs. He created a col-
lection in the image of the empress: a mixture
of strength, poetry, boldness and femininity.
A CHARMINGLY VINTAGE
PHOTOSHOOT
L’Oratoire du Louvre in Paris was the perfect setting for a col-
lection inspired by a Byzantine empress. Originally the Royal
chapel of the Louvre, this impressive temple with its historical
atmosphere, its dome and its architecture added yet another
indescribable dimension to the fashion show and carried the
audience to the heart of the collection. It also charmed us in
such a way that we just couldn’t leave without shooting a se-
lection of our best looks in this special location. Together with
photographer Christian Lartillot and stylist Agnès Poulle we
went to explore the hidden treasures of the temple in order to
portray the Couture SS17 dresses with great passion and poetry.

For the Envol Collection, Tony Ward draws his inspiration from the wild beauty of a majestic, imperial bird. He sheds
light on a rebellious and pure woman whose duality appears in its entire splendor.

Imagine being in the coldest place on Ear-
th. Conjure up the heavy snow, abundantly
and continuously falling all around you. Can
you hear the wind blowing? Can you see the
temperature dropping? Can you behold the
magnificent beauty of winter? Can you in-
terpret the poetry encoded in the snow fla-
kes? Can you feel the crack of delicate ice?
To design his newest Ready-to-Wear collection
for the Fall-Winter 2017/18 season, Tony Ward
rediscovers the beautiful lightness and fluffi-
ness of fluttering snowflakes. He revives the
intricate and captivating patterns of snow cry-
stals, re-imagines the mysterious shapes of
cracked ice and replicates them in his designs.
This winter, Tony Ward invites us to the fascina-
ting world of ice and snow that offers such a uni-
que and compelling atmosphere. The collection
named Winter Bloom, presented last March du-
ring Paris Fashion Week, will be available this
fall at all Tony Ward resellers around the world!

What is so magical about Fashion, what is so
special about this industry, if not its power
to transport us into a totally different reality?
For the Spring Summer 2017 season, Tony Ward
invites us to a new dimension; a world full of dre-
ams, magic and fantasy. The woman he imagi-
nes is a fairy queen, romantic yet mysterious and
untouchable. Fascinated by the beauty, courage
and passion of Lúthien, the “fairest elf who ever li-
ved”, Tony Ward reflects her freedom in his designs.

For his Bridal 2018 collection, Tony Ward’s
source of inspiration was Crystalline Prose,
a unique and complex approach to litera-
ture in which every word is well thought of,
yet the prose seems to flow effortlessly. The
words shine with life, painting a beautiful
imagery in a reader’s mind.

Inspired by this philosophy, Tony Ward de-

signs dresses with intricate craftsmanship,
and carefully selects fabrics and detailing, in
a light and timeless manner.

The Tony Ward Bridal 2017 Collection represents the
mythical romance of a Bridal Maiden, a romantic voya-

A meticulous play with the boundaries of light and
transparency entwined are interpreted into fairy-like
silhouettes; flowy capes, overskirts and embroidered
bodices create classical yet unconventional wedding
looks.
This Bridal Collection is an invitation to enter the world
of imaginary tales while experiencing the softness and
elegance of the Designer’s signature styles.

NYC Dance Project was created by Ken Browar and Deborah
Ory. They have created the project to showcase the wonder-
ful world of dance and dancers, centered in New York City.
Their work has been featured in many magazines including
Harper’s Bazaar, Italian Vogue, L’Uomo Vogue and Glamour,
and on many websites including Today.com, Elle.com, USA To-
day.com, Huffington Post, Hasselblad and many others. Their
book, The Art of Movement, was published on October 25, 2016
and won an International Photography Award for best book.
These unique and beautiful portraits of the dan-
ce community not only showcase the graceful elegan-
ce of the dancers, but they also highlight the femini-
nity and lightness of the dresses the dancers wear.
So when the NYC Dance Project approached us with a col-
laboration in mind, we were delighted to send them Tony
Ward dresses from the Couture and RTW collections,
and we impatiently waited for the results. As you can see
in the pictures, we were far from being disappointed!
The beautiful dancer Sterling Hyltin, a Principal with New York
City Ballet was able, through her dance to to bring our dres-
ses to life, while Ken and Deborah were able to capture her
movements in a mesmerizing and unprecedented manner.

NYC Dance Project

Interview
Forward: How did the idea of NYC Dance Project come to you?
Deborah Ory: I started NYC Dance Project with my husband,
Ken Browar. I had been a dancer growing up and had always
loved dance. Ken and I were both working as commercial pho-
tographers shooting fashion and celebrities. We really wanted
to work on a personal project together. Both of our teenage
daughters were studying dance at the American Ballet Theatre
school. They wanted photographs of the dancers from Ameri-
can Ballet Theatre that they admired to put up in their rooms.
To our surprise, there were very few beautiful images of these
dancers, so we decided we should photograph them ourselves.
We reached out to one of the principal dancers and shortly after,
we were photographing most of the company! It was not long
before the project took off. Now we have a book of our work,
have done several gallery shows and are currently working on
a 2nd book.
F: What attracted you most in the Tony Ward dresses you chose?
DO: I was very attracted to the Tony Ward dresses because of
their femininity, elegance and timeless style. The details on the-
se dresses were just incredible and the dancer was able to move
beautifully in them.
F: Describe the connection you observe between dancing and
fashion.
DO: It’s really wonderful to work with dancers because they can
take fashion to places you don’t usually get to envision when
working with a model. Dancers are able to make the garments
come to life and the movement brings out shape, form and tex-

While working behind the scenes, stylists play a key role in building striking
brand identities and fashion narratives. ForWard meets stylist Amine Jreissa-
ti to shed light on what it takes to become a visual innovator.
Forward: While being able to adapt their styles for clients, brands etc. we can
always feel the signature of a stylist. How would you describe your personal
style?
Amine Jreissati: I would say that just like my own personality, my shoots are
often full of paradoxes. A clash of aesthetics, shaped yet unpolished, clean yet
messy. It could be through the hair, the outfits, the make-up, the attitude or
even the context. There must be life in the story I tell, some imperfections that
give it a soul. A shoot is a story, and a story with no emotion is simply boring.
ARMANI PRIVÉ

F: From where do you draw your inspiration?

AJ: From anything and everything. From the streets, from art, from imper-
fections, and from beauty; even ugliness inspires me.
F: How do you build an identity for a brand or a shoot?
AJ: If am building a brand identity or working on a first campaign for a brand
(which happened to be the case with a Lebanese designer for whom I created
the first campaign ever), the major challenge is to translate the vision of the
designer in one image. To create desire. To create an impact. It’s not a story, TONY WARD

it’s more of a vision in one single image. And the process to get to that images
is the equivalent of hours of brainstorm, of trials; it’s a huge team sharing ide-
as; then you take the best out of all and bring it to life.
F: Styling requires fashion visionaries. What does it take to be ahead of one’s
time in this field?
AJ: I think that nowadays, we are not very much ahead of time. Everything
has been done, redone, reinterpreted and revisited. We are more in the pre-
sent than in the future... Everything is trendy, seasons don’t really exist any-
more. What’s out today, is already outdated tomorrow. So what’s important
today is to be able to propose a vision of how to wear stuff, how to mix them,
how to make them alive and adapt them to your own personal style.
F: What is your creative process when working on a shoot?
AJ: Every shoot is different. Challenging in its own way. And the process I
have for each shoot depends on the project itself. Sometimes the model
inspires me and I build the concept/story around her. Or if I have a certain
concept in mind, I then find the appropriate girl for that specific concept and
develop it. Not to forget that it’s always a teamwork. Obviously, one should
take the final decision, but what’s important is that the photographer, stylist,
hair and make-up should all be aligned in terms of vision.
F: Which Styling tip would you give to the readers of ForWard?
AJ: Honestly, I think that every person should dress the way they feel comfor-
table. That’s how they create their own style. If one doesn’t have his/her own
style it means s/he still didn’t find himself; he or she is somehow lost. So my
advice would be to follow what your body needs and what you feel mentally
or physically comfortable in. And balance (in term of colors, shape, etc.) is
very important. Finally, attitude is the key to all.
