AN ARGUMENT FOR THE EXISTENCE OF GOD

Thesis​: God can be defined as a being conceived as the perfect ruler of the universe and the

principal object of faith.​ There are many people that do not believe in any religion, for that

reason, they have no cause for believing in a God and they decide to be part of creeds or beliefs

where they make God a mocker. People who do not believe in a God and dispute against the

existence of God are demonstrating something that is absolutely false. There is a God for

numerous reasons. This paper’s purpose is to prove the existence of God, knowing that He is the

creator and savior of our world. It also shows a counter-argument to the competing positions (the

presence of evil) based on atheistic arguments.

Supporting Idea 1:​ ​There is a first cause of the universe because from nothing comes nothing.

If nothing existed, then nothing could result into nothing because nothing can be made out of

nothing. So, in order to support and prove the existence of God, the universe must have a

beginning. The next question is whether something caused this beginning, or the universe just

popped into existence out of nothing. We all know, though, that nothing that begins to exist does

so without a cause; nothing comes from nothing. For something to come into existence there

must be something else that already exists which can bring it into existence. The fact in where

the universe began to exist therefore implies that something brought it into existence, and the

universe has a Creator. Dr Unwin maintains that he is personally around 95% certain that God

exists​. ​He argues that rather than being a theological issue, the question of God's existence is

simply a matter of statistics. "On arriving in America I was exposed to certain religious outlooks

that were somewhat of an assault upon my sensibilities - outlooks in which religion actually

competes with science as an explanation of the world," he said. (Maclean, 2004)

Supporting Idea 2​: ​The Bible shows that everyone has faith because everyone believes in

something. ​Faith is therefore the major aspect that determines the stand of an individual person

on whether God exists or not. It is a strong virtue that determines the stand that one takes about

the universe and existence of God. ​Faith develops gradually from childhood depending on the family

and the community in which a person is brought up. ​A person grows with these virtues and believes

in whatever the family and the society believes in, whether backed by evidence or not. Faith is

unavoidable, even if we chose to believe only in ourselves. What is to be decided is what

evidence we think is pertinent, how are we going to interpret that evidence? and who or what we

are willing to believe in?.

Counter-Argument:​ ​The idea of evil is the first argument that gives an account that there is no

prove that God exists. ​This argument is the best that atheists have to disapprove the existence of

God. It is stated from the following two arguments that the existence of God cannot be true so

the first one states that; a perfectly good God should logically strive to prevent evil. If He is

omniscient, he should know all the ways in which evil can originate. If He is omnipotent, He has

the power to prevent evil from existing. The second argument that supports the inexistence of

God is argued from the point that he is not all loving because he has left evil to occupy the nature

of human's being. “​In the jargon of the philosophy of religion, such arguments are known as

"atheological arguments." The argument from evil (sometimes referred to as 'the problem of

evil') is by far the most famous of the arguments, but it is by no means the only such argument.

Indeed, in the 1990s philosophers developed a flurry of atheological arguments; arguably the

best known dispute is the debate from reasonable nonbelief (also known as the argument from

divine hiddenness)” (Lowder, 2006)

Conclusion:​ ​Just like two cords wound together become a strong rope, so the cumulative

effect of these two arguments provide us with a powerful case for the existence of God. Taken

together, these two arguments tell us that the cause and designer of the universe is an intelligent,

immaterial, powerful, changeless being that existed in a timeless, eternal state beyond the

beginning of the universe. This, I suggest, is close enough to the traditional Judeo-Christian

concept of God that we can justifiably conclude that indeed, God does exist, and that for him we

are in this world, and to him we owe our existence. finally I consider that there is no evil

presence that counteracts with the existence of God, He is almighty, nothing can neither could

against him.
