Troubleshooting about CSFB failures

1 Symptom

In Country M, operator T complains that all the CSFB failed in a certain area, after MSC upgrade. (MSC is
not Huawei equipment)

3 Cause Analysis

 ENODEB side analysis result:

1. Statistic data analyze result:
From the ENODEB analysis, the CSFB attempts received from MME reduced at 15:00. It is consistent with the
phenomena of combined TAU failures from CN side.

There is no change of the CSFB success rate. It indicates that the ENODEB process is normal.

2. ENODEB trace analyze result

The above conclusion also can be proved by the UU and S1 interface trace of the ENODEB.
Notes: the trace was captured under the ENODEB in the problematic area.
From the S1 and UU interface trace, all the CSFB attempts received from MME, ENODEB redirected the UE to 3G.

Conclusion: the CSFB failure was due to the CSFB indication received from MME decreased.

 MME side analysis result

From the performance on USN, R5BAN1MME and R5FUE1MME was in POOL, the Location Update Success Rate
dropped at the same time and the reason was reject by MSC. From the reject times, there was no resume trend
line.

From the SGS interface, there was many Location Update Reject with #17 Network Failure reason by MSC.

Conclusion: The CSFB attempts reduce was due to the location update failure caused by MSC.

4 Handling process

 CSFB service was almost restored by MSC reboot

From ENODEB analysis, the number of CSFB attempts is normal.

5 Suggestion and summary

Solve the location failure caused by MSC. Many reasons can cause the CSFB failure;
sometimes the equipment from third party can cause KPI problems and we need to
support customer them solving these issues.
