CHAPTER III
METHODOLOGY

This chapter clearly defines the research used in this study to investigate the

effectiveness of gumamela flower extract as a main component of nail polish. The

researcher explains how the necessary data and information to address the research

objectives and questions was collected, presented and analyzed. It focuses the

method used in conducting this research which covers research design, participant of

the study, materials and equipment, procedure, gathering tool, data gathering

procedure, ethical consideration, and data analysis.

Research Design

The research design, is a deliberately planned arrangement of conditions for

the analysis and collection of data in a manner that aims to combine relevance to

research purpose with the economy procedure. Generalizing it across groups of

people or to explain a particular phenomenon. The researcher used a Quantitative

research because it is emphasized objective measurements and the statistical,

mathematical, or numerical analysis of data collected through polls, questionnaires,

and surveys, or by manipulating pre-existing statistical data using computational

techniques. It is a Quasi-experimental because it approached the involvement of time-

series data, in which researchers observe one group of subjects repeatedly both

before and after the administration of the treatment. This can be done in a controlled

experimental setting, but this design also lends itself well to a more naturalistic setting

in which data are commonly collected on a group of subjects and researchers are

interested in the effects of some treatment or intervention which they did not

experimentally apply.

Participants of the Study

The researchers did employ a purposive sampling which is non-

probability sample that is selected based on characteristics of a population and the

objective of the study. The participants should need to satisfy all the conditions set by

researchers enable to participate in the experiment. Such as, first, participant should

not have a diseases and disorder in the nails such as __________. Next, they are

willing not to do any household chores that was using their hands within 1 week. Lastly,

the age of the participant was limited only to 13 years above.

The researchers used purposive sampling technique for the study. A purposive

sample is a non-probability sample that is selected based on characteristics of a

population and the objective of the study. Purposive sampling is also known as

judgmental, selective, or subjective sampling (Crossman, 2018).
