INTRODUCTION

During the orbit of the Earth on its axis inclined around the Sun four main positions are
produced that give rise to four different periods throughout the year: they are the
solstices and the equinoxes. These periods are also known as spring, summer, autumn
and winter seasons. Each season of the year has its own characteristics with respect to
temperature, rainfall and sunlight among other characteristics.

The seasons are periods of time throughout the year that maintain particular climatic
conditions in certain regions. They occur in the order indicated below (spring-summer-
autumn-winter) defining a landscape with its own characteristics in terms of light, color,
temperature, rainfall, etc.

4
OBJECTIVES

• Know the start and end of each station.

• Know the characteristics of each station

• Know the effects and causes of the stations.

5
1. THE SEASONS OF THE YEAR
In general, we speak of four seasons of about three months each, although there
are areas of the Earth where there are only two, the wet and the dry; for example,
in the tropics.

start H. north H. suouth Days duration Inclinatión

20-21 march spring Autumn 92,9 0º

21-22 June Summer Winter 93,7 23,5 º North

22-24 September Autumn spring 89,6 0º

21-22 December Winter Summer 89,0 23,5 º South

The four seasons are: spring, summer, autumn and winter. The first two
make up the half year in which the days last longer than the nights, while in
the other two the nights are longer than the days.

6
1.1.SPRING:

It is one of the four seasons of the temperate zones of planet Earth, after
winter and before summer. The term premium comes from "primer" and vera
from "verdor".

a) Period of duration

Astronomically, this season begins with the spring equinox (between March
20 and 21 in the northern hemisphere, and between September 21 and 23 in
the southern hemisphere), and ends with the summer solstice (around 21
June in the Northern Hemisphere and December 21 in the Southern
Hemisphere). In the intertropical zone of the northern hemisphere it begins
on March 21 until September 23. In the intertropical zone of the southern
hemisphere it goes from September 23 to March 21.

b) Features

With regard to climate, the slow and progressive increase in temperatures is

common as the weeks progress, with some interspersed period in which the
winter environment may "reappear" due to some residual cold air masses.
Rainfall tends to be more irregular and less widespread, discharging in the
form of rain showers and more likely storms in the middle and late seasons,
when summer is near. The leaves and flowers of deciduous trees grow back
gradually, coloring the landscape again after winter.

7
1.2.SUMMER

It is the season of the year that takes place between spring and autumn. It is
the warmest time of the year, with the highest thermal marks. In the northern
hemisphere, summer takes place between June, July and August, while in the
southern hemisphere, it corresponds to December, January and February. It
should be noted that when the summer season takes place in the northern
hemisphere, it is winter in the southern hemisphere (and vice versa).

a) Period of duration
During this period, the days lengthen (in relation to the other stations) and
the nights last less hours. The solstice (which in the southern hemisphere
occurs on December 21, while in the north is on June 21) defines the
beginning of summer, which lasts until March 21 (in the southern
hemisphere) or on the 21st of March. September (in the northern
hemisphere).

b) features
Summer is associated, in general, with holidays and leisure. The high
temperatures facilitate outdoor life and invite people to enjoy the beach,
parks or walks in general. Summer usually appears linked to fun and joy
while, on the other hand, winter is related to sadness.

Traveling to the beach to enjoy the sun and enjoy the sand and the sea is one
of the most frequent summer activities. Millions of people decide to go to the
spa towns (known as summer destinations) to spend their vacations.

8
1.3. AUTUMN:
Patrimonial voice of the Latin autumnus, late name in Latin, because at first
only the year was divided into two seasons, summer and winter. Autumn
begins to be identified as a season in regions with agriculture that produces
fruit in this season; for example, the vine.
It is located between summer and winter. From this season temperatures
begin to get colder.

a) Period of duration

The season begins with the autumn equinox (between March 20 or 21 in the
Southern Hemisphere and between September 22 and 23 in the northern
hemisphere), and ends with the winter solstice (around June 21 in the
southern hemisphere and the northern hemisphere on December 21.
Sometimes the full months of September, October and November are
considered in the northern hemisphere and March, April and May in the
southern hemisphere

b) features

At this time of year the trees lose their leaves and their greenness, the energy
that was previously concentrated in the leaves is collected to the roots to stay
during the cold months. The leaves of the trees change and their green color
turns yellow until they dry and fall helped by the wind that blows with
greater force and the temperature begins to be a bit cold. In both
hemispheres, autumn is the season of the crops of, for example, Corn and
Sunflower.

9
1.4. WINTER
The word winter comes from the ancient Spanish, and this from the Latin
vulgar hibernum, from the Latin tempus hibernum, winter season.
Winter is one of the four seasons of temperate climate. This season is
characterized by shorter days, longer nights and lower temperatures as we
move away from the Equator. In some countries of the intertropical zone the
term of rainy season is used to denominate a time of greater precipitation and
rainfall

a) Period of duration

From an astronomical point of view, it begins with the winter solstice, on

December 22 in the northern hemisphere and on June 21 in the southern
hemisphere, and ends with the spring equinox, around March 21 in the
northern hemisphere and September 21 in the southern hemisphere, varying
the dates slightly according to the year. The fact that the orbit of the Earth is
elliptical, translates into a shorter duration of winter in the northern
hemisphere and greater than this in the south, since in July aphelion occurs
during the southern winter, and in January the perihelion during the boreal.
In summary, winter lasts approximately four more days in the southern
hemisphere than in the northern hemisphere.

b) feautures

Winter is the coldest season of the year, and its characteristics are inevitably
defined in contrast to the other seasons of the year; since during the winter
days the temperatures are lower and there are fewer hours of sunlight. These
characteristics are accentuated as we move away from the tropics and get
closer to the polar circles.

In some regions of the planet, depending on its latitude, altitude and certain
weather conditions, you can observe snowfall.

In the equatorial countries where there are only two seasons throughout the
year, it is known as the "rainy season

10
2. CAUSES AND EFFECTS OF THE SEASONS

Due to climatic differences we can say that the year is divided into four seasons,
namely: summer, autumn, winter and spring. The climatic variations are more evident
in the cold and temperate zones than in areas near the Equator, where there are two
seasons, so to speak, one dry and one humid, and both day and night have the same
duration over the course of 365 days. days of the year.

But ... Why are the seasons produced? The different seasons are produced as a result of
the imaginary axis of rotation of the planet Earth having an inclination that is always
oriented in the same orientation and the translation around the Sun. It is also for this
reason that the Sun illuminates the two in a different way. hemispheres (South and
North). Therefore stations would not exist if the Earth's axis were not inclined with
respect to the ecliptic, that is, to the curved line through which the Sun passes around
the Earth.
In this sense, if the south pole is inclined towards the Sun, it will receive more solar
radiation, which translates into heat, to the detriment of the north pole. But months later
due to the aforementioned phenomenon the process is reversed and the pole that was not
inclined towards the sun, in this case the north, will receive more heat, while the south
will receive less.
The four positions that determine the seasons are: winter solstice, spring equinox,
summer solstice and autumn equinox. The solstices are produced because the axis of
our planet is inclined with respect to the rays of the Sun that fall vertically on the Tropic
of Cancer - winter solstice - or of Capricorn - summer solstice -. In contrast, the
equinoxes occur when the axis of rotation of the Earth is perpendicular to the rays of the
Sun that fall vertically on the Equator.

3. CONCLUSION

It can be highlighted that the seasons are very important when creating the
landscapes that captivate us so much. Without the seasons we would not see
a field full of flowers, a green meadow or a snowy mountain. Therefore, this
variation of seasons allows us to observe the great amount of landscapes,
different and beautiful, that are distributed throughout the terrestrial
surface.
