1 Technical description
Control:
The microprocessor controlled Syramed® µSP6000 Premium is a syringe pump driven by
a mechanical drive with intelligent software monitoring of all critical functions. The stepper
motor transfers movement to a drive belt, which is directly connected to the lead screw
mechanism. All important infusion parameters are displayed on very well readable LCD
and LED displays. Entering parameters is done via a touch field.

The pump uses two independent microprocessors mutually checking each other. In case
of a discrepancy, the pump is stopped immediately and an acoustic alarm is emitted.

To achieve the accuracy stated in the specifications, the pump must be used with the
recommended syringes and the correct syringe has to be selected.

Power Supply:
A switching power supply directly mounted on the main PCB allows a wide input range of
110 – 230V AC, 50 - 60 Hz while a regulated 15V DC output.
Furthermore two DC-DC converters are used to secure the 5V and 3.3V power supply. On
the primary inlet the pump is fused. When changing the fuse, follow these instructions:

!!CAUTHION!!:
- Before changing a blown fuse, find out the reason why it is blown.
- Only carry out repairs when device is powered off and disconnected from mains.
- Take note of warning signs!

In addition to the switching power supply, an internal battery enables the user to use the
pump independently from mains supply. The battery is a NiMH Battery (9,6V, 2150 mAh,
Part No.: 71160) and is always being charged when the pump is plugged into mains. The
battery is charged on a cyclic basis, which ensures a long battery life. A complete charge
is complete within approximately 10 hours. Then the charging is set to trickle charge, to
guarantee the battery will not self-discharge on mains. To monitor the charging a counter
is used. A battery empty alarm is triggered if either the counter or the measured voltage
falls below a certain value.

Sensors:
The pump uses several sensors to monitor its functions.

The pressure sensor is positioned inside the drive head. Its working principle is to measure
the force necessary to push the syringe plunger. This force allows the calculation of the
pressure inside the infusion system. The pressure sensor requires a precise electrical
calibration (mbar).

To monitor negative pressures pulling on the syringe (“siphoning”) an optical sensor

checks the contact of the syringe with the drive head.

SH-6000-Pre-E-03/13 4
For detection of the syringe diameter a potentiometer is used. This potentiometer is
connected to the syringe clamp. The potentiometer must be calibrated (mm).

Using a hall sensor the rotation of the syringe drive system is monitored. If the measured
speed does not correspond to the set rate the pump is stopped and an acoustic alarm is
emitted. This allows checking the mechanical and electrical functioning of the drive head
system.

All verification tests have carried out with syringes of the types Injectomat 50ml and BD
Plastipak 10ml.

Software:
The microcontrollers are equipped with an internal flash memory (256/512kB). For
software updates and data transfer the Syramed® μSP6000 is equipped with infrared
interfaces. This enables to carry out these updates without having to open the housing.
The required USB interface (part nr.: 5316) and arcomed agʼs own PremiumLink™
software are compatible with all common Window operating systems.

!!WARNING!!:
The Syramed® μSP6000 is turned completely off during a software update to access the
internal flash memories. At this stage any false manipulation may cause pump failures. It is
of utmost importance that only trained personnel carry out updates because there are
several variations of carrying out updates. arcomed ag is not responsible for pump
damages because of false handling. There is no physical damage done to the pumps, but
the processors need to be reinitialized. Only arcomed ag may carry out the task of re-
initialisation. Furthermore are updates only to be carried out by trained personnel.

Specifications, instructions for use, warranty, performance data, EMC behaviour:

The specifications, instructions for use, warranty conditions, performance data and EMC
behaviour can be found in the user manual.

2 Maintenance:
Maintenance and safety checks have to be done according to the checklist in the user
manual.

SH-6000-Pre-E-03/13 5
3 Set-up mode:
To carry out calibrations, adjustments or data transfers, the pump has to be started in
setup mode. In the following chapter this process is described in detail.

3.1 Starting the pump in Setup Mode

1. press and hold right down arrow “V” key on the “VOLUME ML” window
2. press “ON/OFF”
3. enter 1111 in the “VOLUME ML” window with the arrow “V / Λ” keys
4. confirm with “MENU/SELECT”
5. “RATE ML/H” and “VOLUME ML” window show 0

You have now successfully entered the setup mode of the Syramed® μSP6000. The
address number is displayed in the “RATE ML/H” window. In the “VOLUME ML” window
the current values on the corresponding address is shown. The values can be changed
with the arrow “V / Λ” keys.

Figure: Entering the password for Setup Mode (1111)

Each parameter and its functionality are described in the chapters 3.3 and 3.4.

3.2 Description of pump setup.

The database of the pump consists of approximately 50 addresses. They consist of the
following groups:

Address 0-19 = Basic settings, calibration

Address 20-50 = Optional settings

Basic settings are superior parameters, which define the actual over all calibration of the
device. With the optional settings the LCD contrast or the language etc. can be changed.
Manual changes on the option settings are only possible when address 50 = 0. The
optional setting for each configuration can only be changed with arcomed ag own
PremiumLink™ software. For the usage of PremiumLink™ separate trainings are highly
recommended. Please contact your nearest arcomed ag partner for further details.

SH-6000-Pre-E-03/13 6
!!IMPORTANT!!:
To ensure that the basic settings take effect, set address 50 = 0!

Optional settings have to be programmed with the PremiumLink™ SW!

Ensure that after maintenance the configuration on address 50 = 1-8.

How to apply option settings:

To enable the functions on address 31, 32 or 48, simply add up the numbers of the options
you require. For example, to enable backlight alarm (4), Pressure Auto limit (16) and
summertime Europe (1024), simply add up 4+16+1024 and set address 31 to 1044.

Note:
Normally optional settings are done via PremiumLink™ where the options can be easily
selected. Therefore manual calculations are not necessary.

alarm and the pictogram “DEFECT” is illuminated:

In the “Status / Help” menu, which can be accessed with the Menu key, the LCD will
display the error code. In such cases the pump must not be used any more until the cause
has been checked. If the device cannot be repaired the pump should be sent to technical
department or to arcomed ag.
On the LITE pumps the defect codes can be viewed in the history from the Read-

7 Initialisation and Updates
7.1 Initialisation and Updates
Because each pump works with two processors, it has to be ensured that both have the
same SW installed. Spare parts PCB are sent with the newest standard SW and need to
be updated, initialized and calibrated by the service personnel.

7.1.1 Release Note

PremiumLink™ is arcomed ag own pump update software tool. This program undergoes
constant improvements and has different releases. One important change concerns the
transition from version 3.0815 to 4.0111. In this change the update procedure has been
automated resulting in different update instructions. Therefore there are several update
methods:

- Updating pumps from 4.0111 to newer

- Updating pumps earlier than 3.0815 to 4.0111 and newer
- Updating pumps after Exchange of Display PCB
- Updating pumps with release 3.0815 and earlier after Exchange of Main PCB
- Updating pumps with release 4.0111 and newer after Exchange of Main PCB

In the following chapters the different procedures are described.

!!WARNING!!
Due to the risk of failure during updates, only trained and qualified personnel may carry out
these procedures. Any damage done onto the pump due to false handling do not fall under
warranty terms. There are different technical trainings for the use and handling of
PremiumLink™.

NOTE:
Following instructions describe the updates using the standard PremiumLink™ version. In
case you are working with the client version we recommend a separate individual training.
In case you are only carrying out software updates, the last four steps on the instructions
(calibration) can be left out.
