Upon successful completion of this course the students will be able to:

• discuss the principles of energy management, energy policy, and audit planning.

• recognize the basics of energy auditing

• discuss lighting systems, their characteristics, process and new technologies to improve
lighting efficiency, and retrofit options

• describe how an HVAC system works, discuss the major components of HVAC systems,
analyze heating and cooling loads and ventilation requirements, and give methods for
improving the energy efficiency of existing HVAC systems.

• analyze boilers and fired systems, key elements for maximum efficiency, and fuel con-
siderations.

• Explain waste-heat recovery, commercial options in waste-heat-recovery equipment,


and economics of waste-heat recovery.

• recognize the importance of energy system maintenance.

• recognize the importance of alternative energy use.

• distinguish the application of different energy modeling software programs.

ment decisions. Energy utilization and conversion systems. Thermal energy and electrical
energy systems. Waste heat recovery. Energy modeling.
