Q. How can I determine the status of a particular missionary candidate from my stake?
A. The View All Candidates page of the Missionary Recommendation Form website tracks all of the missionary candidates in your stake from the time they begin
filling out their recommendation forms until they return home from their mission. While the candidates are filling out their forms and their bishops are reviewing
them, the candidates’ names appear under their ward name. When a bishop submits a candidate’s recommendation form to you at the stake level, the candidate’s
name appears on the View All Candidates page under the head “Ready for the stake president’s action”. When you submit a recommendation form to Church
headquarters, the candidate’s name appears in the section labeled “With Church headquarters”. Once the recommendation form has been processed by the
Missionary Department and the missionary has been assigned to a mission by a Member of the Quorum of Twelve, the missionary’s name appears in the section
“Call letter sent”, and so forth. Therefore, the View All Candidates page keeps you informed all of the time of the status of each missionary in your stake.

Q. Can I transfer a recommendation to another ward/branch?

A. Yes, a recommendation may be transferred to any of the units already identified as having some type of stewardship for the missionary.
The "Home" unit is the ward or branch where the missionary's membership records will likely reside while the missionary is serving.
The "Submitting" unit is the ward or branch that will be submitting the missionary's recommendation to Church headquarters.
The "Funding" unit is the ward or branch from which the missionary's funding amount will be collected each month.
The "Membership" unit is the ward or branch in which the missionary's membership record currently resides.

To submit a transfer request, click on the Other Units link next to a missionary's name on the View All Candidates screen, then use the Make this the xxx unit
checkboxes to identify the desired transfer and click Send Requests when done.
The current Submitting unit may request to designate one of the other units as the new Submitting unit.
The current Home unit may request to designate one of the other units as the new Home unit.
The current Funding unit may request to designate one of the other units as the new Funding unit.
Any of the current units (Home, Submitting, Funding, or Membership) may request one of the unit designations (but not Membership) they do not currently hold.
A missionary's membership records may not be changed through this system, but the designation of Membership unit is updated automatically when the
missionary's membership record is moved to a new unit via MLS.
All transfer requests must be approved by the non-requesting unit.

When a request is submitted to change one or more of the unit designations, an email is sent to the leader of the approving unit to notify him of the transfer
request, and he has 14 days in which to approve or decline the request. After 14 days, the request expires and is removed from the approver's list of requests to be
approved. An expired request is not processed and shows in the requester's list of submitted requests with a status of "Expired." To complete the desired transfer,
the requester should contact the approving priesthood leader, then resubmit the request. A completed transfer request may be archived (hidden from view) by
clicking the Archive button. An archived request may not be un-archived. If they are not manually archived sooner, completed, canceled, and expired transfer
requests are removed from the requester's list of submitted requests after 90 days.

If, for some reason, the system does not allow a recommendation to be transferred as needed, please call the Missionary Department in Salt Lake City, Utah, at
801-240-1015 or 800-453-3860 x21015

Health Questions
Q. Do wisdom teeth need to be pulled no matter what?
A. No. If the dentist feels that the missionary's wisdom teeth will not cause a problem for the duration of his mission, the missionary does not have to have them

Q. How long is the physical examination information good for?

A. The Missionary Department requires that the missionary receive a physical examination within one year of when the recommendation forms are submitted to
Church headquarters. As long as the date of the physician's signature on the Physician's Health Evaluation form is within a year of when the recommendation forms
are received by the Missionary Department, the medical exam is valid.

Return to FAQ menu

Q. I have a pre-existing medical condition. Will this limit where and if I can serve?
A. Medical conditions are handled on a case-by-case basis. The Missionary Department will direct you to speak with one of the Department's medical specialists
and get their recommendation.

Return to FAQ menu

Q. We do not believe in immunizations. Is it absolutely necessary to have them?

A. The Personal Health History section of the form allows you to indicate that you are not willing to receive immunizations. Whether or not you are immunized is
your choice. However, not being immunized will limit where you will serve.

Return to FAQ menu

Q. What immunizations are needed before submitting the recommendation forms?

A. Technically, no shots are required before the recommendation forms can be submitted. However, all missionaries from North America must have the following
immunizations before they begin their missions:

Tetanus (if it has been longer than 5 years since the last booster shot)
Two MMRs (measles, mumps, rubella)
Hepatitis A and B

All other immunizations are dependent on where the missionary is called. Instructions about additional immunizations will be included in the call packet that will
come with the call letter.

Other Questions
Q. Can I change the date that I report to the MTC?
A. Changing the date that you report to the MTC changes the date you start your mission and may impact the MTC's ability to place you in the appropriate
classes. It may also impact your ability to report to the mission field when your mission president is expecting you. Therefore, you are encouraged to make every
effort to report to the MTC on the date that has been assigned to you. However, should circumstances require a change in your MTC date, please contact your
stake president as soon as possible. He can call the Missionary Department and work with them to determine a new MTC date for you.

Return to FAQ menu

Q. I have lost the call packet that I received in the mail with my call letter. Can I get a replacement copy?
A. You can call the Missionary Department, and they will send you a copy of your call packet.

Return to FAQ menu

Q. I have not received information or a welcome letter from my mission president yet. Are they going to send me anything?
A. Not every mission president sends information to the missionaries coming to their mission. It is not a requirement. If you have not received anything from your
mission president, do not be concerned. You should have everything you need in your call packet, which you received with your call letter. Rest assured that your
mission president knows you are coming.

Q. I was able to complete the "Review and Accept Privacy Agreement" checklist item, but my spouse wasn't able to. Why?
A. The “Review and Accept Privacy Agreement” checklist item is unique because it’s seen as an “electronic signature”. It can only be completed using an account
that was created using the membership data of the person that it applies to. The reason that you can’t complete that checklist item is that you’re using an account
that was created with your membership ID number and confirmation date, not your spouse's. Your spouse will need to use an account created with their own
membership ID number and confirmation date. Once they log in using that account, they will be able to complete this checklist item.

Q. My health insurance coverage will be terminated once I am out of school. Insurance is so expensive. What do I do about insurance coverage
while on a mission?
A. Unless there is a pre-existing condition, medical expenses that result from illness or injury in the mission field will be paid for by the Church. However, if you
have a pre-existing condition that requires medical attention in the mission field, the family will be responsible for reimbursing the Church for medical expenses
incurred. In this case, purchasing private health insurance may be a wise option. The Missionary Department recommends that all missionaries have at least a
personal catastrophic medical coverage policy in place while serving a mission. The Church will not continue to pay for extensive and extended treatment for
serious accidents or illness that occur in the mission field beyond three months after the missionary is released.

Return to FAQ menu

Q. My papers have been in for 2-3 weeks (or more) and I still have not received my call. How can I find out what is going on?
A. Mission calls are normally issued within two weeks of when the recommendation forms are received by the Missionary Department. In some cases, calls are
delayed because the Department needs additional information or because the Department doctors or psychologists are still evaluating the information in the
medical sections of the form. Missionary candidates should contact their stake president about the status of their call. If the stake president is not already aware of
the cause for the delay, he can call the Missionary Department and find out what is holding up the call. Missionaries and their parents are not encouraged to call
the Missionary Department directly.

Q. What books can I take to the mission field?

A. The call packet that you receive with your call letter identifies the books that are authorized for you to have at the MTC and in the mission field. The list of

approved books generally includes the Standard Works, Our Search for Happiness, Jesus the Christ, Our Heritage: A Brief History of the Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints, and True to the Faith :.

Q. What are the restrictions on taking music tapes or CDs and tape players or CD players to the mission field?
A. Each mission president sets the policy on whether or not missionaries in his mission can have tape players or CD players and what kind of music they can
listen to. Under no circumstances can you use headphones. Personal players must be equipped with external speakers. You are discouraged from bringing music
and players to the MTC. Once in the mission field, follow the direction of your mission president regarding music.

Return to FAQ menu

Q. What time am I supposed to report to the MTC? What if something happens and I cannot report to the MTC at my assigned time?
A. The call packet that you received with your call letter specifies the time that you are expected to report at the MTC. Because of the volume of missionaries who
report each Wednesday at the Provo MTC, the times are staggered alphabetically so that all of the missionaries do not show up at the same time. If you
experience a delay in your travel plans that keep you from reporting at your specified time, simply report to the MTC as soon as you can. If a travel delay keeps you
from reporting on your assigned day, you need to contact the MTC immediately and explain the situation to them.

Senior Missionary Service

Q. What is considered "adequate" health insurance while serving as a senior missionary?
A. "Adequate" insurance coverage is defined as the following:

An individual deductible of no more than US$2,000 per plan year.

At least 70% coverage, after the deductible, for all acute and emergency medical expenses, including physician, hospital, and additional services.
Coverage for medications.
A lifetime limit of not less than one million U.S. dollars.

Q. What immunizations are necessary for missionary service?

A. Hepatitis A and B: This is a three-shot series that takes six months to complete. Prospective missionaries should begin the series as soon as possible so it
can be completed before missionary service begins. If the assignment begins before the last of the three shots can be completed, the health care professionals at
the MTC will make arrangements for completion.

Tetanus: If a person has been vaccinated against tetanus in the past, a booster is needed every 10 years. If a person has never had a tetanus vaccine, a series of
three is needed. The Tdap vaccine that is a combination of tetanus and diphtheria also provides protection against pertussis (whooping cough).

MMR and Polio: Missionaries born before 1957 do not need to receive or report measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) and polio vaccinations.

Pneumovax: Vaccination against pneumonia is strongly recommended.

Influenza: Vaccination is strongly recommended as soon as the flu vaccine becomes available each year.

Shingles: Vaccination for shingles is strongly recommended for senior missionaries.

Meningitis: Meningococcal vaccination is required for countries where the disease is common. MPSV4 vaccine is used for adults older than 55.

Other immunizations may be required depending on where you are called to serve. These includeTyphoid, yellow fever, and Japanese encephalitis.

Return to FAQ menu

Q. How much do immunizations cost?

A. Immunization costs vary widely. Inquiring of several immunization providers may help you find the most economical price.

Return to FAQ menu

Q. Who is responsible for the cost of immunizations?

A. Prospective missionaries are responsible for the costs associated with missionary preparation, including those for immunizations. Financial concerns because
of immunization costs should be discussed with your priesthood leaders.

Return to FAQ menu

Q. Where can I receive immunizations?

A. Immunizations can be obtained at local municipal health department clinics, sometimes specifically identified as travel clinics. Some physicians' offices also
maintain a supply of vaccines.

Return to FAQ menu

Q. If I prefer to not receive immunizations, will I still be able to serve a mission?

A. Prospective missionaries who do not complete the required immunizations will be assigned to serve within the country where they live.

Q. How do I arrange to pay my home ward for the cost of my assigned housing?
A. There are a number of ways to arrange for your monthly housing expense payments to be donated to your ward's missionary fund.

Donation Envelopes: Take donation envelopes from your funding ward (the ward that will be charged for your monthly housing expenses) with you on your mission
and send one by mail each month with a check for your monthly housing expense amount.

Relatives: Have a son or daughter or someone with power of attorney send a check to your bishop once a month.

2/13/2019 FAQ
Automatic Bank Payments: Many banks will allow you to set up an automatic payment that is withdrawn from your account each month and sent to your bishop.
Check with your bank on the details of setting this up.

Return to FAQ menu

Q. How long will I be at the MTC, and when can I leave to start my mission?
A. Usual training time is one to three weeks. The packet that comes with your missionary call will tell you specifically about the training needed for your mission
call. Most missionaries receive one week of training based on the Preach My Gospel manual. Depending on the nature of your assignment, you may stay at the
MTC for an additional week or two of training.

Return to FAQ menu

Q. Help me understand the details of the "$1400 housing cap."

A. Key points of the housing cap are as follows:

The US$1400 cap announcement by the Church affects only your assigned housing cost.
The cap is only applicable to senior missionaries serving as a married couple.
All personal expenses and travel expenses will be paid by the couple and will be in addition to the assigned housing cost. Food costs, personal expenses,
car lease (where applicable) gasoline, travel, eating out, cell phones, and personal computer services are not covered in the $1400 cap announcement.
The housing cap applies to all missions.
If a couple's housing expense exceeds the equivalent of US$1400, the missionaries pay the first $1400 and the Church pays the rest.
The couple sends their housing expense amount to their funding ward each month. The funding ward is the ward from which the Church will withdraw the
housing expense amount each month.
When you are determining how much you can pay each month, include the amount for housing in the total amount. When your assignment is made, care is
taken to ensure that the total cost of your mission, including housing, will not exceed your ability to pay.

Return to FAQ menu

Q. What about bringing a car on our mission?

A. All couples bring their personal vehicles to serve in the United States, Canada, and northern Mexico. The couple pays all expenses for gasoline, upkeep,
repairs, and insurance. Those serving outside of the United States, Canada, and northern Mexico lease a vehicle from the Church for US$150, and usually the
couple then pays for gasoline and upkeep while the Church pays for repairs and the insurance on the vehicle.

Return to FAQ menu

Q. How much does it cost to be in the MTC?

A. As of May 2012, the daily cost for staying at the Provo MTC is US$44.50 per couple and US$22.50 per single sister. This payment covers food and housing, but
it does not include any books or other supplies. The MTC cost is not related to or accounted for as part of the mission assigned housing expense. (This amount
may change without notice.)

Return to FAQ menu

Q. How early can senior missionaries be set apart?

A. Senior missionaries often ask how soon they can, or should, be set apart as a missionary if they will be extending their travel time to the MTC to stop and visit
family. The counsel to stake presidents in this matter is to refer to the Church handbooks for suggestions and to let the Holy Spirit guide.
