Introduction
Russia is a country rich in mineral and energy resources. The mythical Volga River, the
longest in Europe, crosses the country from north to south until it empties into the Caspian
Sea. The inhospitable and gigantic Siberia covers more than half of the Russian territory,
although less than a fifth of the population lives in it. The Siberian workers are working hard
to uproot natural gas, oil, coal, gold and diamonds from the frozen earth. Other raw materials,
such as skins and wood, are also the source of the coveted foreign exchange.

5 things to does in Russia

1. Smiles and the way of being: Russian people smile only when they see or greet a known
person, or are flirting, or really enjoy something or are very happy. The Russians do not smile
for the courtesy or the unknown people, and we should not take it badly, it does not mean that
they are angry, it is simply the social custom.
2.Gifts: if you have Russian friends, it is very important to congratulate them at parties, make
small gifts: flowers and boxes of chocolate chocolates to women, sweets tochildren. Making
gifts is a strong tradition that is very important, as between the family, both at work, among
friends and acquaintances, and especially in relationships.
3.Flowers: when you give flowers in Russia always done in an odd number: 5, 7, 9 etc. since
even numbers are used only at funerals or for the dead.
4.Delivery of money: in Russia, it is not customary to pass the money from one hand to
another, usually the money is left on one side and the person takes it from there (it is never
taken directly from the hand of another person) in the ATMs of the stores there are
special containers to place and collect money.
5.Fiestas and celebrations: the most important party in Russia is the new year (January 1),
other important holidays are March 8 (women's day), May 1 (spring party and work day), 9
May (Victory Day - World War II). Orthodox Christmas is January 6-7, December 25 (
Christian Christmas) is not celebrated, usually the end of the year parties begins on December
31.
5 things that should don't in Russia
1. Do not go to someone's house empty-handed.
If you were invited to a house, do not go with anything. It does not matter what you carry -
a box of chocolates, some flowers or a small toy for the child.
2. Do not pass shoes to someone's house.
In many houses in Russia there are carpets on the floor. They are not the typical wall to wall
carpets that are easily cleaned, but the best carpets that are hard to keep clean. When walking
through the snowy streets or through the autumn mud, the Russians do not want to bring all
this dirt inside, so they take their shoes off when they enter. In each house there are usually
slippers for guests, one can choose whether to wear them or go barefoot.
3. Do not make fun of someone's parents.
The Russians are not politically correct. You can tell ethnic jokes about sexual appearances or
stereotypes. But do not make fun of someone's mother or father. You will not be understood.
4. You do not dress inappropriately.
As you know, Russians dress well on more occasions than Westerners do. Even out walking a
Russian woman can put on a nice dress and high heels.
On some occasions, all foreigners, no matter the gender, run the risk of being the worst
dressed person in the room. It can be at a dinner or an outing to the theater. Going to the
restaurant is also considered a special occasion and you will not want to appear with a jeans
and t-shirt, even if you think that the atmosphere of the restaurant will be informal. In any
case, it is always better to ask how to dress before leaving.
5. Do not belch in public.
Physiological functions are considered extremely discourteous in public, especially if the
sound is long and expressive and the author is proud of it. However, if the incident occurs, do
not apologize, you will attract more attention and recognize your authorship. Meanwhile the
Russians, terrified by what happened, will pretend that they did not notice anything or blame
the dog. If you do not want to be remembered mainly for this incident, avoid your
physiological functions in public.
