3-year Professional Development and Action Plan
2019-2020
• Attain a position focusing on Orientations/First-Year Programs, Retention, Multicultural
Affairs, Community Engagement, Leadership Development, or Residential Life at either
a 4-year public or private institution
• Become more active within NASPA to become familiar with their guiding principles an
connect those with my own personal values (Artifact E)
• Attend National Conferences to build my professional network and find opportunities to
engage in research and knowledge communities.
• Connect with 2 Student Affairs professionals at my institution once a month to learn
about their perspective on Student Affairs and their experience as professionals
• In the first two months of new position, visit and connect with the staff of different
offices to learn about their services and policies and procedures for referrals and intake
(Artifact E)
• Research and explore the student population at new institution and historical relationships
between students and the institution I work at
• Depending on timeline, continue to connect with Dr. Thai-Huy Nguyen for opportunities
around research and continue to engage in current research projects through completion

2020-2021:
• Reflect on first year of position and analyze the ways that my identity has been shifted or
stayed the same in this position and how this affects my own biases and work with
students I interact with
• Based on reflection and feedback process, work with supervisor to develop professional
development plan and find professional development opportunities
• Develop and implement assessment and evaluation plan for areas I oversee (Artifact E)
• Explore opportunities in National Organization to be involved in different learning
communities and find leadership roles (Artifact E)
• Volunteer for Leadership roles at my institution such as Academic/Conduct Review
boards and be connected with divisional plans and goals if applicable (Artifact E)
• Attend ASHE National conference to continue to engage with scholars and researchers on
best practices and relevant theories to inform practice
• Follow up with individuals with research opportunities around AANAPISIs or Asian
American and Pacific Islander students within two weeks of conference
• Begin informal lunches/meetings to connect with colleagues once a month to discuss
social justice issues at the university if such forums do not already exist

2021-2022:
• Reflect on second year of position and analyze the ways that my identity has been shifted
or stayed the same in this position and how this affects my own biases and work with
students I interact with
• Based on reflection and feedback process, work with supervisor to develop professional
development plan and find professional development opportunities
• Based on feedback and experience, determine if current position reflects personal
interests and explore other professional opportunities if not
• Review digital social media presence (LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter) to reflect my current
professional identity and my research interests in AANAPISIs and AAPI students
• Begin exploring Ph.D programs and faculty that have similar research interests and
agendas as myself and connect with at least 3 at ASHE National conference or digitally
by end of the year
• Reach out through professional network to connect with 3 individuals currently in Ph.D
programs and learn about their experience through the admissions process and currently
with their program
• Reconnect with SDA faculty and faculty at current institution about what benefits and
opportunities exist to for pursuing a Ph.D
• Evaluate entire Professional Plan and create new professional plan for next 3 years
