Nationalism

A nation is a group of people who feel themselves to be a


community bound together by ties of history, culture and
common ancestry

Nationalism refers to the body of thought or beliefs held about


the nation by its people and how their collective actions and
attitudes, acknowledge the upmost importance of the nation,
subsequently achieving or sustaining the moral, cultural and/or
political outcome of their country

It brings a sense of social cohesion/a sense of “self”

Social, cultural and political unity

National spirit appropriate only when it is


combined with the feeling of internationalism

In the absence of the feeling of internationalism,


the citizens might be misled by blind patriotism and
may ignore the inadequencies of their own nation
and they may regard their country as the best in the
world
