Landfill leachate treatment

Problem Landfill leachate is characterized

Client Sogama, Spain
by high contents of organics, ammonia
Capacity 4 x 100 m3/d
(which may inhibit biological processes), TDS
Start-up Q1 2011 and heavy metals.

Solution A modular containerized treatment plant with the following treatment

layout has been installed at the Client’s site:

Buffer and pH Multi-media Cartridge

adjustment filtration filtration

Ammonia
CD-RO SW-RO
stripping

The plant is fully automatic, reliable and arranged in four parallel treatment
trains to ease operation.

Key point mft’s landfill leachate

treatment plants are equipped with
our Circular Disc Reverse Osmosis
(CD-RO) modules.
Landfill leachate treatment

The plant is completed by a cleaning

unit, chemical dosing stations and
service air supply to ensure a plug-and-
play installation.

Thanks to the innovative design of our

CD-RO modules (ca. 30% less pumping
power is required), OpEx are minimized.

Within the following table, the main

operating data of the plant are briefly
summarized.

Parameter Unit Inlet Outlet

Flow (per train) m3/d 96 - 122 53 - 65

CD-RO recovery rate % 52 - 59

SW-RO recovery rate % 91 - 96

Total RO recovery rate % 50 - 55

COD mg O2/L 22,000 < 150

Conductivity µS/cm 36,800 - 43,900 < 600

Total rejection rate % > 98.5
