An independent clause is basically a sentence and you cannot mash two sentences together without
something in between them. This is where FANBOYS come into play.

The last day of summer is always the hardest and you never want it to end. When you think about all of
the trips you and your family took over the summer you recall all the specific memories you created.
During this past summer we went to the beach the amusement park and the aquarium. My family also
got to go to the zoo and a baseball game. I can’t believe we have to go back to school and start another
new year. It is my first day of middle school so I am really scared about getting lost. I am also afraid that
