Configuring Outlook Anywhere for

Exchange 2007
This document will help you to configuring Outlook to connect to our Microsoft
Exchange 2007 server remotely. The first step is to go to Control Panel and double
click on ‘Mail’. (Figure 1)

After double clicking ‘Mail’, there are three options to choose from. If this is the first
time you are setting up an account in Outlook 2007, choose ‘E-mail Accounts’. If
you already have an email account setup for use with Outlook, then select ‘Profiles.’

Check ‘Manually configure server settings or additional server types’ and click
‘Next’. (Figure 3)

On the next window, select ‘Microsoft Exchange’ and click ‘Next’. (Figure 4)

Type the internal FQDN of the mail server and ensure to check the box ‘Use Cached
Exchange Mode’. Next, type the username of the person you are setting up Outlook
for. Note: Do Not click ‘Check name’ at this time as you will get errors.

Select ‘More Settings’ from the ‘Add New E-Mail Account’ window. In the ‘General’
tab, observe the settings and ensure ‘Automatically detect connection state’ is
checked. (Figure 6)

Observe the settings in the ‘Advanced’ tab and ensure that ‘Use Cached Exchange
Mode’ and ‘Download shared folders (excludes mail folders)’ are checked. (Figure 7)

Observe the settings in the ‘Security’ tab and ensure that ‘Encrypt data between
Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Exchange’ is checked. Also ensure that ‘Negotiate
Authentication’ is selected for the ‘Logon network security’ option. (Figure 8)

Observe the settings in the ‘Connection’ tab and ensure that ‘Connect using my
Local Area Network (LAN)’ is checked. It is very important to check ‘Connect to
Microsoft Exchange using HTTP’ and then click ‘Exchange Proxy Settings’. (Figure 9)

Input the URL(s) of your Outlook Anywhere server. In the first box you must type
the external FQDN of the mail server. The second box is the internal FQDN of the
mail server with msstd: as a prefix. Ensure that ‘Basic Authentication’ is selected
and click ‘OK’. (Figure 10)

The next step is very important in order to succesfully establish a connection
through Outlook. In Internet Explorer or Firefox, you must go to the URL for Outlook
Web Access. You will get a certificate error. (Figure 11)

You must click on the ‘Certificate Error’ notification which will appear in the upper
right hand section of the address bar. (Figure 12)

After clicking on the Certificate Error, the Untrusted Certificate notification will be
displayed. Click on ‘View certificates’ at the bottom of the notification window.

After clicking on ‘View certificates’ the Certificate window will open. Click ‘Install
Certificate’. (Figure 14)

In the ‘Certificate Import Wizard’ click ‘Next’ to continue. (Figure 15)

Select ‘Place all certificates in the following store’ and click ‘Next’. (Figure 16)

Select ‘Trusted Root Certification Authorities’ store and click ‘OK’. (Figure 17)

The Certificate Import Wizard will complete, click ‘Finish’. (Figure 19)

When a Security Warning displays, click ‘Yes’. (Figure 20)

Now you are ready to use Outlook. When you open Outlook for the first time, you
will be required to login. You must use domainname\username in the ‘User name’
box in order to successfully establish a connection to the Exchange server. (Figure
21)

You should be successfully connected to the Exchange server with Outlook. The
next steps are not important but are good for troubleshooting or validating the
connection.

Validation:
Now that we have installed all the components we need to do some testing to
validate we have access to our mail.

Check Outlook connection status:


1. Log onto Outlook.
2. In the System tray hold the CTRL key and right click the Outlook icon.
3. Select connection status.
