1. Introduction
Before mounting and initial operation of your motor unit, please read this instruction thoroughly.

2. Product Description
The CL 74 0-10V is a winch motor for an continuous control of swivel shutters.
The CL 74 0-10V is mounted directly on the shaft of the winch motor.
The CL 74 0-10V has manual emergency operation.
The CL 74 0-10V is a motor designed to operate the winch motors in livestock houses as well for
the operation with a climate computer of Big Dutchman.
The CL 74 0-10V is suitable even for other chimneys.
By means of a holding device (Code-Nr. 60-47-8110) the motor can also operate other swivel
shutters e.g. exhaust air chimneys with 400/500/600/750/800/900 mm

3. Assembling and Installation

3.1. Mounting the CL 74 0-10V on intake hopper
If the CL 74A 0-10V was delivered separately or is to be
mounted subsequently on the intake hopper, the assembly
has to be made according to the following instructions:

Turn the damper to the closed position (see figure 1).

When installing CL 600 chimneys, remove the adapter for

the drive shaft from 10-16 mm (see figure 2).
Figure 1

The winch motor is prepared by default for the assembly on a

closed damper (end stop clockwise).

Figure 2

For checking purposes activate the trigger c and turn the

gear d clockwise up to the limit stop (see figure 3).

The CL 74 0-10V can now be mounted on the intake hopper.

3.2. Mounting the intake hopper to the chimney

The intake hopper is pushed upwards vertically and locked to
the chimney by means of the four screws and plates provided
(see figure 4).
A house will normally have one or more infinitely adjustable
chimneys. These can be operated with or without an
emergency opening. According to the operating mode,
different requirements regarding the electrical installation have
to be observed (see figure 15 up to figure 17).
Installation of cables:
CL 74 0-10V is connected to the control unit or to other winch
motors as shown in the diagrams (see figure 15 up to figure
17). Figure 14 shows in addition the electrical connection of
the fan.
Figure 4

All cables are to be mounted through PG 16 threaded flanges

with an enclosure to min IP54.
Normally the cables are to be secured outside the housing.
When mounting it has to be observed that the cable forms a
drip nose (see figure 5, Pos. c) thus avoiding an error by
penetrating water.

A cable connection shown in figure 5, pos. d

has to be avoided in any case.
Holes not in use are to be covered by means of IP 54 safety
plugs.

3.3. Mounting of lid

Mount the lid before initial start of the CL 74 0-10V.
Figure 5
Check the sealing during the assembly. Fasten the lid by
means of 5 screws.

Attention: As the screws are tightened directly into the

plastic housing, it is important not to tighten them too
much.
3.4. Control of the trigger
After having mounted the lid, check the transmission trigger.
Press the membrane c and control the function by turning the
shutter d. Make sure that the swivel shutter can freely move
in the chimney (see figure 6). Figure 6

3.5. Mounting a CEE plug

If it is requested - for safety reasons – to switch off the current
for the fan, it is possible to mount a CEE plug in the lid (see
figure 7).

Figure 7
Attention: when dismounting the plug, switch off the main
current supply for the fan.
3.6. Operation and Maintenance
Instructions:
The CL 74 0-10V is designed to operate without supervision
and is normally controlled by the house computer. Should it be
necessary the swivel shutter can be opened manually, by
activating the manual release c, (see figure 8).
Should a situation arise where the computer discontinues Figure 8
operation an optional emergency control with a 24V battery
in the computer would secure that all swivel shutters are
opening automatically. This will secure a maximum ventilation
if sufficient mains voltage is available.

Optional extras:
• Signal lamp for fan: The lamp is on, when the fan is in
operation.
• Fan switch for switching off the fan.

3.7. Maintenance / Cleaning

The CL 74 0-10V does not require any special maintenance,
but we recommend to have the system serviced once a year. Figure 9
The CL 74 0-10V can be cleaned with conventional cleaning
materials and desinfectants (see Figure 9).

When cleaning it is important not to damage the sealings.

Attention: Pay special attention to the cleaning of the

shaft sealing (see figure 10).

Figure 10

Annual checks:
1. Open the lid of the cabinet to check the inside functions.

Attention: Avoid water penetrating into the inside, because this will damage gears
and other important components.

Pay attention to the shaft sealing and the sealing at the cables. If there are any signs of
leakage, seal with silicone or replace the PG screw unions.

2. Activate the manual release and check that the swivel shutter is moving freely in the entire
working area.

Replacing the motor:

Attention: Before removing the lid, switch off the power at the safety switch.

• Turn off the power and remove the lid

• Unplug the motor and loosen the strap that fastens the motor
• Remove the motor and insert a new motor
This one will be fastened by means of the strap and the motor plug is mounted.
Attention: Pay attention to the correct fit of the plug.
• Mount the lid and connect the power

3.9. Dismounting
Attention: Switch off power to CL 74 0-10V before dismounting.
Dismount the cables and then remove the complete winch motor from the shaft.

Disassemble the CL 74 0-10V into the following elements:

• Gear unit
• Plastic box and cable bushings
• Metal bottom plates
• Electric components
Bring all these parts to a recycling company.

3.10. Trouble shooting

Although the CL 74 0-10V is designed to work without any monitoring, interruption of operation
may occur. Should this happen, check and rectify according to the following list:
The winch motor does not work:
• Check 24V tension
• Place the flap in central position: It should go back automatically to that position set by the
0-10 Volt signal. 5 Volt = 50% opening of the flap.
If not:
• Check the control voltage and measure the control voltage between the terminals H10 and
H12.
If this is okay:
• Replace the motor
Fan does not work:
• Check supply voltage and possibly control voltage to switches

If they are o.k.:

• Replace the fan

Wrong flap position:

• Check adjustment of potentiometer as well as the microswitch on the motor board.

Figure 13
3.11. Potentiometer
Big Dutchman climate computers work with a control signal of UIN = 0 - 10V DC.

Regarding the operation with a Big Dutchman climate computer the following adjustments
for the potentiometer are necessary:

O=0 (poti-limit stop left)

S = 10 (poti-limit stop right)

Page 11

3.12. Microswitch
A self-adjustment (switch 1) of the Big Dutchman winch motor is not necessary. Furthermore the
rotating direction (switch 2) „clockwise“ is preset and may only be modified in special cases.

Regarding the operation with a Big Dutchman climate computer the following adjustments
for the microswitches are necessary:

Switch 1: Off (self-adjustment)

Switch 2: Off (rotating direction)
If all adjustments are okay:
• Replace motor board
