Spiritual Inventory
HW420

Inventory 2
This question was chosen to have the interviewee describe what their meaning of
spirituality is to them. Spirituality is based on the individual’s perception. There are many
factors that affect their own spirituality so there are no exact definitions that can describe all
spirituality. This question allows that person to create or recognize the base of what their
spirituality is.
2. The definition of Spirituality is “the quality of being concerned with the human spirit or soul
as opposed to material or physical things” (Webster, 2018). How would you describe
Spirituality now?
Providing the exact definition of what spirituality means may affect their perception of
what Spirituality means to them. This can also help to solidify their beliefs of Spiritualty. By
“rules”, we can also have a sense of how strong their beliefs are to them.
Spirituality is a concept that isn’t accepted or practiced by everyone. Their may be many
reasons why a person doesn’t look at spirituality in their life. Asking this question well provide
the interviewee an opportunity to reflect on their choice to practice spirituality or not. This may
My focus for this inventory of questions is to indirectly relate Spiritual ideas into their
thought process. This question is to describe the wellness paradigm. Emotions is part of the

Wellness Paradigm (Seaward, 2013). The purpose was to have the interviewee evaluate their
overall health and see if their spirituality affects their physical health.
Mental well-being is part of the Wellness Paradigm (Seaward, 2013). There are many
factors that involve the mental aspect of the Wellness Paradigm. By asking about how
judgement is affected by their Spirituality gives the interviewee a basic translation of what
mental well-being is. This also allows the interviewee think of what comes to mind first.
There are three pillars to human spirituality (Seaward, 2013). By using this question, we
are able to ask spiritual related questions without letting them know that it’s spiritual. This is not
to trick the interviewee but more to engage them in a spiritual direction. Asking them about their
relationships will allow them to recognize the types of relationships they have and to pick their

A purpose of life is one of the pillars of human spirituality (Seaward, 2013). Asking the
interviewee this question will allow them to engage in spiritual thought without knowing they
are. This helps the interviewee recognize their goals, whether it be long term or short term. It
also helps them to evaluate their goals. Their current goal may not be what they need at the
moment so having them think about it will help them reorganize them.
10. Has this list of questions helped with your Spirituality? Why or why not?
This question is used just to help the interviewee analyze the information that they
provided. It becomes a summary of their spiritual thoughts. This also allows the interviewee
“Believing in a power in greater than yourself, this may include belief in a god or higher
being. Or even the fact that there is life beyond what we currently know. Spirituality can be the
belief that a person is not alone and there is a higher power watching over them.”
2. The definition of Spirituality is “the quality of being concerned with the human spirit or soul
as opposed to material or physical things” (Webster, 2018). How would you describe
Spirituality now?
“I would say the same thing. Spiritualty is believing in something more than yourself.
“Yes, I believe there does exist life beyond earth. Perhaps even a higher power which
has created life and souls. Such as life and souls, giving us feelings.”
“Having my particular beliefs allows me to believe that I have a certain a path which is
beyond my control. Knowing that there exists a plan, I don’t allow myself to get frustrated when
one door closes because I know its allowing for another to open.”
“My definition allows me to have a more relaxed outlook on life and not sweat the small
stuff.”

10. Has this list of questions helped with your Spirituality? Why or why not?
Based on the answers that my interviewee gave me, I can conclude that the results were
slightly what I expected. When I asked these questions, I was expecting answers that were more
fluid. The person I interviewed had a very strong belief in what she thought was right and
wrong. She also had a strong religious foundation that set the tone for the rest of the interview.
The interview itself did not give me much data on what I should add or remove from my
inventory. Some reactions that I saw that helped with the interview was the time between the
question asked and the answered that was given. When I asked a question, it took an average of
20 seconds or more for her to give me an answer. This lets me know that the person is putting
As of right now, I would not add or remove anything from this inventory of questions. I
think I need to ask another person who does not have a strong religious background like my
current interviewee. I think the direction of the interview will be a bit different.
