o Resort representative: you would look after holiday-makers at their holiday destination
(usually abroad)
o youth hostel: it provides accommodation where guests can rent a bed in a dormitory and
share a common bathroom, kitchen and lounge. Rooms can be mixed or single-sex. They
may offer short term accommodation for travellers or backpackers or provide long term
accommodation as shelter and counselling for residents.
o hotel: They offer visitors service in the range of 1-5 stars. A commercial establishment
providing lodging, meals, a different level of amenities, range of facilities, and quality of
additional guest services such as a restaurant, a swimming pool or childcare.
o boutique hotel: It has a contemporary vibe and a quirky, modern spirit. It provides five-
star hospitality service and heady ambiance. The rooms are furnished in a themed, stylish
manner.
o apartment: offers suites in apartment-style instead of as rooms.
o guest house: Larger than 'bed and breakfast' accommodation, typically offering breakfast
included in room rate but not licensed to serve alcoholic beverages. Guest houses range
from low-budget rooms to luxury apartments, and tend to be like small hotels in larger
cities. They are rated from one to four stars (one to five diamonds in UK).
o caravanning: A caravan is a vehicle without an engine that can be pulled by a car or van.
It contains beds and cooking equipment so that people can live or spend their holidays in
it.
o motel: Motor hotel. In general, roadside overnight accommodation facility that offers
little or no amenities (such as attached bathroom or room service) other than parking
space. Rooms are, in individual chalets or trailers, arranged around the car park with
room doors opening directly to the outside rather than internal corridor.
o camping: In holiday parks you can put up your tent or you can hire caravans or mobile
homes, which are spacious, accommodating between two to eight guests. They have all
the equipment you would expect, such as a shower, kitchen and a television. You can go
for walks out into the wild and see nature in its true habitat. It’s a good option if you like
to cook your food for yourself.
o selfcatering cottages: self-contained holiday accommodation which has facilities for
guests to prepare their own meals. Self catering cottages are more spacious than Hotel or
"B and B" accommodation and provide space for sitting and living as well as a kitchen, in
addition to bedrooms and bathroom(s). It offers freedom and fantastic value for money.
o bed and breakfast: Guests are accommodated in private bedrooms and breakfast is served
in a dining room. Bathrooms can be private or shared or en-suite. Staff is the house owner
or family members.
o inn: they originally acted as community gathering places serving food, drink and lodging.
o en-suite: Amenities or features included with (attached to) a room, such as a private bath
and toilet.
o full board: a hotel offering full board provides guests with all their meals (breakfast,
lunch and dinner) In UK, for example, it would include morning tea or coffee, breakfast,
lunch, afternoon tea or coffee, and dinner.
o half board: includes breakfast and only one additional meal, usually dinner.
o all inclusive: an all-inclusive arrangement, for example a holiday, includes in its price all
the services that people will need or expect, with no additional costs. So you can eat three
times a day and drink soft and alcoholic drinks.
o room service: you can order food and drinks to your room
o chambermaid: there is personnel for tidying your room
o safe deposit box: where you can put your valuables
o bartender: he/she prepares and serves delicious cocktails and coffees in a bar
o concierge: he/she is helping guests, for ex. by giving them advice about local restaurants,
leisure activities, culture events
o receptionist: He/she welcomes guests and helps them to check in, when they check out
he/she makes sure they settle their bills. He/she takes messages and put them into pigeon
holes, takes and gives keys, informs guests about services and facilities of the hotel and
he/she has to deal with all kinds of questions and complaints.
o animator: he/she organises free-time activities for guests in the hotel and entertains them,
according to their age group
o housekeeper: she has to make sure that everything in the guests’ room is in order
o HR Manager: He/she recruits new staff for the busy peak season.
o maintenance assistant: if you find that sg does not work in your bathroom he will fix it
for you.
o banqueting manager: he/she organises for instance wedding receptions and other events
in the ball room of the hotel.
o reservation clerk: he/she works at the fron office and deals with reservations
