ALTERNATORS
Topic 5 Alternators
3.1 Objective of this Topic
 To know the parts of Alternator
 To know the difference b/w stator and rotor
 To make preparatory sketch of stator and rotor from the given design data
 To make drawing of the sub assembly or assembly drawing using CAD

3.2 Introduction

The alternator works on the principle of Electromagnetic Induction ie. Conductor is stationary and
field/flux is rotating . Thus this is what it has been implemented practiacally.

*Points to keep in mind conductor is not rotating.and fileld/flux is rotating

**Thus how is this practically possible..?
**Thinkkk**

Types of Alternators
Based on the construction of rotor the alternator is classified into 2 types
Salient pole and non salient pole type alternator

Salient Poles machines have winding known as Damper Winding / Bars which are embedded in the
head of the pole close to the face of the pole. Damper bars are provided for protection against
mechanical oscillation resulting from transients produced during starting and abnormal conditions
