ALTERNATORS
Topic 5 Alternators
3.1 Objective of this Topic
To know the parts of Alternator
To know the difference b/w stator and rotor
To make preparatory sketch of stator and rotor from the given design data
To make drawing of the sub assembly or assembly drawing using CAD
3.2 Introduction
The alternator works on the principle of Electromagnetic Induction ie. Conductor is stationary and
field/flux is rotating . Thus this is what it has been implemented practiacally.

Types of Alternators
Based on the construction of rotor the alternator is classified into 2 types
Salient pole and non salient pole type alternator

Pole width=6cm
Outer radius=15.4cm
Inner radius=13.4cm
