How to Unlock LG G4 Bootloader

 

Similar with Sony, now LG is offering full support on bootloader unlocking procedures,
thus starting with this year you can easily and safely unlock your own LG branded device.
However, the process is still quite complex, so in order to make everything work, you
should use a proper tutorial to guide you through the unlock operation. In that respect,
and if you own the new LG G4, you should read all the lines from below as I am going to
teach you how to unlock the bootloader on LG G4 model number H815.

You should know that usually this operation is recommended only for developers or 
advanced Android users. Even though the process is supported by LG, the unlock
 

operation isn’t of cial, which means that you will void the warranty of your LG G4 if you
 

choose to follow the guidelines from this tutorial. Therefore, if unlocking the bootloader
is not a must and if you are a newbie who is using the Android system for the rst time,
you should think twice before doing anything else (at least, read all the lines from this
guide in order to learn everything that’s related to the bootloader that runs on your
device).

So, from the start it have to be clear for you that by completing unof cial operations you
can end up in bricking your LG G4. Well, since the warranty will get void, if something bad
happens you will have to consider in manually xing your Android device – because
taking your phone back to service implies in paying for the technical assistance.

As pointed out, unlocking the bootloader is a process that is usually applied by

developers. You see, once this tutorial is completed, you can consider in applying various
other dedicated operations. In that respect, in most situations, an unlocked bootloader
will be required when you will try to: root your LG G4, install a custom recovery image,
update with a custom ROM (such as CyanogenMod, AOKP or ParanoidAndroid), install
dedicated apps, overclock the CPU frequencies, remove bloatware, install custom kernels
and so on.

Of course, if you are satis ed with your phone’s performances and if you don’t want to
spice things up in any matter, then unlocking the LG G4 bootloader is not for you.

The bootloader represents the start up program that loads the OS along with other  
essential processes and programs from the ROM memory into the RAM partition. Thus,
 

this small program will run each time you boot or reboot your LG G4. It is essential to
 

know that your Android device can run only if the bootloader is featured (it is extremely
similar with what you have on your Windows based computer or notebook). Now, by
default, this program is pre loaded with various factory and carrier restrictions – that’s
why you have to unlock it.

Now, a good idea will be to prepare some things before starting the steps from below –
remember that this is a complex operation, so be careful to avoid unpleasant situations
from taking place. In that matter, take a look and apply the tasks from the following list.

Backup your data as during the unlock operation, a hard reset might be applied, or
your data might get corrupted.

You should consider in saving your contacts, call logs, text messages, internet
settings, IMEI / NVRAM, images, videos, audio les, saved passwords and any other
personal data, info and accounts.

You can easily complete the backup process by using apps from Google Play, a
computer, a SD card or a cloud storage software.

Remember that this guide is compatible only with the LG G4 model number H815 –
don’t try to unlock the bootloader on any other variant of this smartphone as you can
end up in damaging your phone.

You need to use a computer on which Android SDK must be ensured – in that matter,
you might need to learn how to install Android SDK on Windows or how to set up
ADB on MAC OS X / Linux.

After doing so, from your computer you might also want to temporarily turn off
security protection – this is only optional (in some situations, users reported that
antivirus related tools interfered with the unlock process).

On your LG G4 you have to enable developer options – type several times on Built
Number from “menu – settings – about phone”.

On your phone access “menu – settings – developer options” and check the USB
debugging option.

Moreover, on your LG G4 access “menu settings – developer options” and check the

“OEM Unlock” option.
 

 Finally, check the battery status on your smartphone before unlocking its bootloader


– plug in the charger if the battery power left is lower than 60% (if your G4 gets
turned off in the middle of the unlock operation, it might also get bricked).

How to Unlock LG G4 Bootloader

1. Ensure a connection between your LG G4 and your computer – use the USB cord in
that respect.

2. On your computer access the Android SDK folder and from there open a command
prompt window – press and hold Shift keyboard key and right click on any blank
space.

3. In the cmd window type “adb devices” and press enter – adb will recognize your G4.

4. Now reboot into bootloader mode by entering in the cmd window the following
command: “adb reboot bootloader”.

5. Fastboot / bootloader mode will be then displayed on your device.

6. Now you have to get your phone’s ID – in that matter, in the cmd window enter
“fastboot oem device-id”.

7. Form a single line code out of the two lines you received, removing all spaces and the
“(bootloader)” to get something like this:
“CD58B679A38D6B613ED518F37A05E013F93190BD558261DBBC5584E8EF8789B1” –
that’s the ID you will have to use.

8. At this point, from your computer run the web browser client and navigate towards
LG’s of cial webpage.

9. At the bottom at that page you will have the “Start Unlocking” option displayed – tap
on the same.

10. Sign in or log in with your own personal info. Also enter the device ID and the IMEI
when prompted (the IMEI can be obtained by dialing *#06# in your dialer).

11. After doing so, an email will be sent to you with the unlock.bin le.

12. Download the received le on desktop. 



13. Now in the cmd window enter (your LG G4 must be booted into fastboot mode): “cd


 Desktop” followed by “fastboot ash unlock unlock.bin”.



14. The bootloader of your LG G4 will be now unlocked.

15. When done, reboot into Android OS by entering “fastboot reboot”.

So, that’s how you can unlock the bootloader of your LG G4. Keep in mind that this is an
unof cial operation, even though it is of cially supported by LG. Anyway, in the end,

got my unlock bin. when i try to use it on the bootloader, the cmd gets stucked
and say waiting for the device, please help!!!

ONLY WORKS FOR LG G4 h815 International EUROPE phone. Other H815
Internationals.., "sorry, we have no plans on providing unlock .bin for other H815
models at this time"..LG.

Why do you think they won't unlock the others? I'm going to be getting the
  H815P (South African model), and I won't be able to use Cyanogenmod.

probably because they're a bunch of dicks. I used to like LG, but
now I'm not sure I'll ever buy another thing they make again. I don't
give a crap about them wanting to protect anything, it's MY
PHONE once I purchase it, and I have the right to do what I please
with it, not what THEY please with it.

I'm thinking LG is protecting its own software on the majority of its
G4 models. By not allowing unlocked bootloaders users can't
install a custom ROM and lose the LG bloat.

That makes sense, but then why not lock all of them,
instead of unlocking the H815 and H811?

They've only unlocked a select few H815's and H811's.
Also LG is pokey about issuing OTA's for the SEA variant. I
ended up installing the Polish MM. As to why only Euro
H815 gets unlocked, I don't know other than there are very
few of them. Maybe LG was just "testing the water" and
saw how many people were unlocking those G4s ( SEA
and a few others were briefly available for unlocking too,
but LG put the foot down since).
