Centre of pressure

Introduction

The experiment centre of pressure show a fabricated quadrant mounted on a balance arm, which
pivots on knife edges. The objectives of this experiment is to determine the thrust acting on a plane
surface in water.

The following picture shows a diagram of the equipment that is used to calculate centre of pressure,
it shows a quadrant in a glass box which is half full of water, on the left side a weight hanger where
the weights will be placed, as the weight is increase on one side of the quadrant the other side of the
quadrant will start to rise, so to balance the quadrant in proportion to the weights more water has to
be poured into the quadrant.
