4. REFERENCE DOCUMENTS

o ANSI B31.3 Process Piping

o ANSI B31.4 Piping Transportation Systems for Liquid
Hydrocarbons and Other Liquids
o ANSI B16.5 Pipe Flanges and Flanged Fittings
o NFPA 30 Flammable and Combustible Liquids Code

5. STANDARD OF MATERIAL PIPING LPG SYSTEM

Piping LPG system shall be indicated or suspected to leakage or spill of liquid. Because of the fire
hazard in piping system that are handling flammable and combustible liquids. Piping system
must be able to withstand the intense heat generated by fire for reasonable periods
of time while emergency shutdown procedures are implemented and fire fighting measures
begin. Failure of piping during fire condition can turn moderate hazard into catastropic.

The Material, design, fabrication, assembly, test and inspection piping systems containing liquids
shall be suitable for the expected working pressure and structural stresses. Conformitty with the
applicable section of ANSI B31.3, American National Standard Code for Process Piping, and
ANSI B31.4 Pipe Line Transportation For Liquid Hydrocarbon and Other Liquids .

The other material plastic or similar materials, as permitted and shall be designed to specification
embodying recognized engineering principles or shall be listed and shall be compatible with the
fluid services. Consideration Material is;

a. Ressistance to damage by fire

b. The any leakage resulting of failure will not unduly expose person and, others important
building, or others structure
c. The locate any leakage can readily by controlled by operation of accessible remote located
valve.

There is need to consider to external coating with fire proofing coating for pipe support and other
structure to holding sufficient fire resistance. Carbon steel pipe must be applied for fire water line.
Utilization of FRP & GRP pipe is strickly not allowed.

The General pipe properties as follows:

Carbon Steel Pipe
 Roughness corroded : 0.022 inch
 Roughness non corroded : 0,0002 inch
 Matterial : Carrbon Steel
 Temperature Max : More than 93 deg C
 Code and Appliccable Standard : API 5 L, ASTM A106 Grade B
 Size and length : 1 to 32 inch, 6 meter
 Fire Resistance : good
 Type of Jointing : Welding
 Wall thicknes : Refer to Pipe Scchedule

6. INTERNAL CORROSION PROTECTION

Internal corrosion protection is not applied for LPG service

7. REGULAR PIPE CLEANING

Regular pipe cleaning is not required for LPG service

8. EXTERNAL CORROSION PROTECTION

8.1 Atmospheric Corrosion

Carbon steel piping and equipment expose to a humid atmospheere will be subject to atmospheric
corrosion. Since atmospheric corrosion is an electrolytic proccess, the presence of water is required.
Apart from wetting by rainstorms, surfaces can have an adsorbed layer of water if the relative
humidity of the surrounding atmosphere is sufficiently high. It is generally accepted that relative
humidity in excess of about 70% lead to adsorbed layers of water molecules.
This layer in combination with salt contamination from the marine environment will lead
to general surface corrosion and Possible pitting corrosion. The corrosion of bare carbon steel in
atmosphere is severe and hence all surfaces shall be coated in atmospheric.

8.2. Corrotion Protection

External corrosion protection of piping and equipment will be accomplished by the

application of protective coatings in accordance with the project coating specification. The
external corrosion is assumed to be zero on the basis all exposed coatings will be
maintainned as required.
Stainless steel material is only applied for odorant injection line, the others piping material
applied for LPG services is Carbon steel. Insulation is also not applied for high pressure LPG
system.

8.3 Fireproofing

API 218, Fireproofing practices in petroleum and petrochemical processing plant,

contains guidance on selecting and installing fire resistant coatings to protect exposed
steel supports from a high–challenge fire exposure. It also contains a general discussion
on determining need for such protection and estimating the extent of the area exposed.

a) Drainage to a safe location to prevent liquid from accumulating under pipe ways
b) Fire resistive construction
c) Fire resistant protective coating system
d) Water spray system designed and installed in accordance with NFPA 15, standard
for water spray fixed system for fire protection
e) Other alternative material acceptable and as long having jurisdiction.
