FOOTBALL OUTSOLE THAT CAN
BE WEAR ON ANY SURFACE
The original idea of creating a modular outsole that can easily
attach to any boot. The outsole could be designed for a specific
ground or surface, with an easy plug-in & plug out attachment
method.

FOOTBALL ONE
The system is integrated by 3 different products: the mobile
app, the modular football outsole and the smart sensor.

FOOTBALL ONE MOBILE APP

A simple mock-up demonstrating the connection between the

phone and the sensor.
EXPLODED VIEW OF TRACKING
The smart sensor is built-in Bluetooth technology, GPS and 3
axis accelerometer.

SMART SENSOR LED LIGHT

The LED light has a range of colours. The four main colours are
yellow for when the device is connected. Green for when the
battery is fully charged. Blue for when is searching for the Mobile
App and finally red for when the battery is low.

MOCK UP OF THE APP

The app is as important as the sensor and the outsole. The app
required to be simple, elegant and sporty. Demostrationing a
reflection of next level of modern football for the professional
player.

ADOBE EXPERIENCE

Using Adobe Experience platform, I was able to create a quick and

simple mock-up of all the features the app required. such as a history
of all matches, weather warnings for the raining days, statistics and
performance panel and much more.
REDESIGNING THE APP
Once the first mockup was ready. The new app was redesigned from
top to bottom. The needed to have the same design language as
the other 2 products, that is why the app was redesigned with the
inclusion of new features such as a heat map, menu, statistics panel
and custom colour for the LED sensor.

REMOVING THE OUTSOLE
In order to understand the process of having receptacles inside the
outsole. I decided the remove the upper of the football shoe for
experimental reasons.

First 1:1 model. due that the build plate has a length of 250mm and
the model was designed for 310. The model needed to be printed into
2 parts.

Quick renders give a good idea of the overall shape of the outsole.

MODIFING

Using a 3D Printing tooling, I was able to modify part of the model

such increase the size of the wholes for the inclusion of the 1:1 scale
receptacles.

By using a FlashForger Dreamer with 2 extruders, I was able to
3D Print 2 materials at the same time. In the case of the shoe, in
order to obtain the quickest and smoothers support for the model. I
started printing the model using PVA as a support material and PLA
for actual model.

PVA has a benefit which is water-soluble. Once the model is printed,

the model is dipped into water. PVA is easily removed by the contact
of water. As result, the model is more smooth.

This model includes the extruded studs pattern coming out of the
outsole. creating more space of the receptacle to be placed inside the
outsole.

R E M O V I N G PVA

3D printing with PVA as a support material saves a lot of time. It can

remove by using both hands or simply by dipping into the water.
V3 O F T H E O U T S O L E
The back part of the football boot has been redesigned. Creating a more
sporty shape. This change allows the model to be injection moulded.

SLS 3D P R I N T I N G
After finishing the final model of Solidworks and creating
different 3D printing models. The final model was sent to
Shapeways in the USA in order to obtain a High-Resolution 3D
printing based on SLS Printing (Selective laser
sintering).

SANDING

SLS 3D printing needs to be sanded using 3 to 4 different type of

sandpaper: 120, 200, 400 & 1000. Creating a smooth surface.
A D D I NG P R I M E R
After sanding the model, in order to cover all the minor scratches. The
model requires a layer of primer. This process could take up 3 to 5
layers of primer in order to create the smoothest surface possible.

SPRAY PAINTING

Now the model is ready to be spray painted using acrylic paint.

In this case, the model was spray painted with white and silver
acrylic. 2 to 5 layers were added during this process.
FINAL MODEL
Once the paint is dry. The decals are added and the inclusion of 11
receptacles for the use of modular studs.

INSPIRATION

During the development of Football ONE, I realized that there is a

strong relationship between cars and shoes. In this case, the colour
and part of shape were inspired by the new Mission E by Porsche
which still a mock-up but is amazing.
T H E S E N S O R

SLS 3D P R I N T I N G
Another part which was printing using SLS Printing was the
ring inside the outsole. The ring essential because it creates the
snap-fit grip inside the shoe in order to create a safe and solid
retention for the smart sensor.

SANDING

The process of sanding for the ring grip and the smart sensor.
ADD PRIMER
The colour for the spray paint was black due that the colour is harder to
wear off during use. It can wear by both female and male gender. Also,
for the manufacturing process, making it black decreases the cost of
production. In addition, everything goes with black.

FINAL MODEL

The photograph shows the final model with inclusion of a sports

band for holding the sensor. As the sensor modular, it can use
outside the football field such as the gym.
