BULLETIN NUMBER: M160/M161 – 005 REISSUE  04/20/2018

APPLICABLE MODEL:
LANIER – SP 4510SF/MP 401SPF
RICOH – SP 4510SF/MP 401SPF
SAVIN – SP 4510SF/MP 401SPF
SUBJECT: TRANSFER GUIDE – IMPROVED TO PREVENT BLACK BANDS

 It is not recommend replacing parts of Transfer Section, because it is so difficult and time consuming
to replace these parts in the field, and the risk of the machine being broken is very high during the
process.
 This bulletin explains the replacement to avoid black band stains caused by dropped toner on the
Front Paper Guide of the Transfer Roller, however this toner dropping occurs after reaching the PCU
life. Because of the above reason, it is recommend that the PCU be replaced when the PCU reaches
its life.

GENERAL:
The right and left edges of the Transfer Roller Front Paper Guide have been cut to allow toner pass through
to the catch area, to prevent black bands on the printed sheets caused by toner dropping on the Transfer
Roller Front Paper Guide. The right and left edges of the Transfer Roller Front Paper Guide have been cut to
allow toner pass through to the catch area. This change, allows the toner that drops, to pass through the
openings and accumulate in the transfer stay wells. (The wells are created by the foam and mylar parts.) The
following part information is being issued for all M160/M161 Parts Catalogs.

 Change:
A cut-out was applied to the right and left edges of the Front Paper Guide of the Transfer Roller.
Sponges and sheets were added to the Transfer Stay.

 Reason:
To avoid black band stains caused by dropped toner on the Front Paper Guide of the Transfer Roller.
With this modification, dropped toner goes around the right and left edges of the Front Paper Guide and
accumulates on the Transfer Stay.

 This change has compatibility guidelines. The old Transfer Stay cannot be replaced in the field, and
it is only compatible with the old style Front Paper Guide. When replacing the Front Paper Guide of
an old machine (prior to the serial number cut-in, see Units Affected), be sure to order the original
style.
 Model SP 4510SF:
This change allows usage of the PCDU even after exceeding 23K by changing the setting of SP5-
931-003. However, DO NOT change this SP on machines manufactured prior to the change,
because the Front Paper Guide and Transfer Stay are both the old style and will cause toner to
accumulate on the Front Paper Guide when reaching approximately 23K.
 Model 401SPF:
Cleaning the Front and Rear Transfer Roller Guides is not mandatory for machines that have this
change. Note that cleaning is mandatory for the machines manufactured prior to this design change
serial number start.

UNITS AFFECTED:
All copiers listed below and manufactured after the serial numbers provided will have the new parts installed
during production.
