HOMEBOUND
We are grateful to those who give of
their time and care to bring Holy Com-
munion to our parishioners who cannot
make it to church due to sickness or in-
firmity. If you know of anyone who would like to re-
ceive communion in their home or while hospitalized at
West Lincoln Hospital, please contact the parish office.
A Message from Bishop Bergie . . .
My dear parishioners,
As we look back over the past year (2018), and the
many issues that we have faced as a Church, one cannot
be faulted for thinking that evil seems to be gaining an
upper hand. Pope Francis recognized this fact when he
asked all Catholics to pray the rosary daily during the
month of October, asking Mary and St. Michael the
Archangel to intercede for the protection of the Church
during this time of “spiritual turbulence”.
As we begin a New Year that promises to be just as
turbulent, I wish to broaden our Holy Father’s request. I
am encouraging all parishes in our diocese to recite We
Fly to Thy Protection and the Prayer to St. Michael
the Archangel at the end of each Mass throughout
2019. These prayers for protection will not be said out
of fear. They will be offered in faith trusting in the
goodness of God. Ultimately, this helps to strengthen
our hope during difficult times and remind us that evil
is not victorious.

Prayer to St. Michael - St. Michael the Archangel, de-
fend us in the day of battle. Be our protection against
the wickedness and snares of the Devil. May God re-
buke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of

world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen

of Fred Rogers and his TV
program. At the film’s con-
clusion, Mr. Rogers shared
the following at a college
commencement, “When I was
a boy my mother told me to
always look for people who
are helping. You will always
find somebody who will try
to help.” When he asked the
graduates to think about that
somebody for them, many cited their mother as that en-
couraging person.
In today’s Gospel, Mary encouraged her son to begin
his public ministry at the wedding at Cana. Mary and
Mr. Rogers may help us remember those who have
cared about us beyond measure encouraging us to be

WORLD DAY OF MIGRANTS AND REFUGEES
January 20
A world Day of Migrants and Refugees is observed in
many places in solidarity with the World Refugee Day
promoted by the United Nations and observed since
2001 on 20th of June. This January observance was in-
stituted by Saint Pius X in 1914. “The phenomenon of
migration today is a providential opportunity for the
proclamation of the Gospel in the contemporary world.
Men and women from various regions of the earth who
have not yet encountered Jesus Christ or know him on-
ly partially, ask to be received in countries with an an-
cient Christian tradition. It is necessary to find ade-
quate ways for them to meet and to become acquainted
with Jesus Christ and to experience the invaluable gift
of salvation.” (Pope Benedict XVI, 2012)

UNDERSTANDING ANOINTING OF THE SICK
Anointing of the Sick is the sacrament that is received
by those who are ill or suffering. By the sacred anoint-
ing and the prayer of the priest, the whole Church com-
mends those who are sick to Christ. The sick person
receives the Holy Spirit’s gifts of strength, faith, peace,
and courage, and his or her suffering is united with the
suffering of Christ for the building up of the Church
(Cathechism of the Catholic Church, [CCC], nos. 1520-
23)
Through the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick, the
Church carries out Jesus’ mission of compassion and
healing for the sick. The one who is ill can also be a
minister to others. By uniting their suffering to Christ,
those who are sick can be signs of faith and witnesses
of Christ’s Resurrection to the entire community (Pope
John Paul II, Christifideles Laici [The Vocation and the
Mission of the Lay Faithful in the Church and in the
World], no 54).

ST. HELEN’S CLEANING MINISTRY
Can you volunteer 2 hours a month to help clean the
church? To join our team of dedicated cleaners, please
contact the parish office. With winter colds and flus
and vacations, we often find ourselves short of help
making it more burdensome on the ones who can make
it. Please consider this worthwhile ministry which
keeps our parish looking clean and sparkly - do you
have 2 hours a month you can commit?
ECUMENICAL PRAYER SERVICE
The Church calls us to celebrate the Week of Prayer for
Christian Unity between Jan. 18 and Jan. 25.
Please join with Bishop Bergie for a ‘Service of
Prayer for Christian Unity’ at the Cathedral, on Sunday
Jan. 20, at 3:00 p.m. followed by coffee and cookies.
