Principal Audio Engineer

About The Role

The Television Systems department are seeking a Principal Audio


Engineer to ensure that F1’s audio engineering systems are correctly
specified, commissioned, operated and maintained, and that they
continue to meet F1’s ongoing broadcast requirements.
 
Main Responsibilities and Duties
1. To install, commission, maintain and operate F1’s inventory of
broadcast audio equipment at grand prix events and elsewhere as
required, such that our audio product fully meets F1’s broadcast
requirements, specifications and ethos.

2. To design & specify upgrades and project manage changes to F1’s


audio engineering infrastructure, both at grand prix events and in the
UK, in order to continue to meet F1’s current and future broadcast
requirements, as appropriate.

3. Attend production and engineering planning meetings, providing input


into the process and develop audio equipment deployment plans that
deliver the desired broadcast audio design.

4. To keep abreast of developments in TV broadcast audio engineering


and consider how these may be incorporated into future F1
engineering solutions.

5. To prepare detailed costings for upgrades and projects being


undertaken and keeping within those projected costs once authorised.

6. To rig, commission and then following the event, de-rig F1’s broadcast
infrastructure at grand prix events.

7. To produce reports as required by TV Systems Group management.


8. To operate safely at all times in line with Company health and safety
requirements.

9. To undertake other duties within your capabilities as your manager


may assign to you from time to time.

About You

The successful candidate will have the following:

Qualifications:
 
Essential:
HND or equivalent in Broadcast Audio Production or Music
Technology.

 
Desirable:
Educated to Degree Level

 
Experience:
 
Essential:
Experience of audio mixing / production for live tier 1 outside
broadcast events is essential
Thorough experience of broadcast audio operations, sound desks /
consoles and microphone types.
Ability to plan sound console configurations, microphone placements
and other audio equipment deployments to meet the requirements of
our broadcast output
Fully familiar with 5.1 and Atmos audio production techniques.

 
Desirable:
Operational experience of a broad range of broadcast technologies
would be advantageous
Experience in Project Management would also be advantageous

 
Knowledge & Skills:
 
Essential:
Knowledge of audio systems engineering and operational practices.
Knowledge of digital and analogue audio standards and measurement.
Knowledge and experience of using a wide variety of microphone
types, their appropriate use, strengths and weaknesses for specific
applications.
A high degree of computer literacy
Excellent attention to detail
Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines
Good communication skills
Good organisation skills
Able to multitask & work under pressure
Flexibility in approach to work

 
Desirable:
Knowledge of streaming, and social media platforms desirable
Knowledge of a broad range of other broadcast technologies,
infrastructures, operations and equipment would be advantageous
Working knowledge of AutoCAD
