3rd & 4th Grade Lead Teacher Monteverde, Costa Rica
• Instruct a combined grade level class of 17 English Language Learners in all academic areas at a
bilingual Quaker school.
• Implement Lucy Calkins Reading and Writing Workshops, differentiating instruction in order to
increase student literacy.
• Incorporate verbal and written expectations during math lessons in order to build academic
vocabulary and increase the ability to explain one’s thinking.
• Utilize math games and creative projects to connect math units with real world applications.
• Design and implement yearlong curriculum for science and social studies, utilizing hands-on
experiences, project based learning and technology.
• Employ Responsive Classroom practices in conjunction with Quaker pedagogy to create a learning
environment focused on cooperation and responsibility. Practices include morning meeting, student-
generated guidelines, and providing feedback that celebrates specific components of student work.
• Teach a semester long health class to students using the Our Whole Lives curriculum, in addition to
a weekly class on Quaker values and spiritual development.
• Generate IEP goals and track student progress.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues to maintain quality, consistency, and vertical alignment.
VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE:
Manos De Amor Casa Hogar Orphanage Summer of 2014, 2015 and 2016
Daily Volunteer Bucerias, Mexico
• Facilitated lessons and art projects to assist children in learning to speak, read and write in English.
• Helped staff with daily chores, such as laundry, food preparation and orphanage maintenance.
• Supervised children on trips into the community, including a field trip into Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
