Vedic Astrology readings of Bhadra Yoga

Celebrity, Planets .Mar 10

2011.In Indian Vedic Astrology, the five planets other than the luminaries namely,
the Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn creates Panch Mahapurusha yoga. The
great combination i.e yoga takes place when any one of these planets is strongly
placed in cardinal houses of the vedic astrology horoscope. There are four cardinal
houses namely the first , fourth, seventh and tenth Bhava.

Panch, is a hindi term which means five and Mahapurusha means great human.
Therefore, when anyone of these above stated planets is strong and is also placed
in cardinal house of a vedic astrology birth chart, one of the Mahapurusha yoga
will take effect.

Bhadra Yoga This is the second among Panch Mahapurush Yoga. This yoga takes
place when the Mercury is strong and placed in the Cardinal house of a vedic
astrology birth chart. The Mercury owns Gemini and Virgo zodiac signs and is
exalted in Virgo zodiac sign.

Therefore, if Mercury is situated in any of the cardinal houses of the vedic

astrology birth chart in Gemini or Virgo zodiac sign it will create the Bhadra
Yoga. The person born in Bhadra Yoga is said to be very intelligent, kind-
hearted, learned, wise, having independent ideology, balanced and attractive
physique and courageous.

However, the strength of the yoga will also depend upon the influences of other
planets over the Mercury. If the Mercury is creating Bhadra yoga and is devoid of
any influence of any other planet in vedic astrology horoscope, full results of
Bhadra Yoga will be there. If, such Mercury is under benefic influence, the
positive results will be more pronounced and appear in early years of life. While,
if such Mercury is under negative influence of malefic planets, then the positive
results of Bhadra yoga will not be permanent.

This is vedic astrology horoscope of Academy Award Winner, Sir Thomas Sean Connery
who is best known for portraying the role of James Bond in movies. Sean Connery
took birth in a normal family and his life is an absolute example of rags to
riches. Sir Thomas Sean Connery has played the role of James Bond in seven movies
and all seven movies were commercially successful. In vedic astrology horoscope of
Sean Connery, Mercury is placed in tenth in Virgo Zodiac Sign and is united with
debilitated Venus and eighth lord Moon. The conjunction of Venus and Moon with
Mercury is not very positive in Sean Connery birth chart as such Venus is a
negative planet for Sagittarius ascendant; while the Moon is the lord of malefic
eighth house. However, the Mercury is exalted and, therefore, retains strength to
give maximum positive results of the Bhadra Yoga in vedic astrology horoscope of
Sir Thomas Sean Connery.

The vedic astrology horoscope of current Prime Minister of India Shri Manmohan
Singh itself speaks about the strength of Bhadra Yoga present in the birth chart.
Mercury is not only creating Bhadra Yoga in vedic astrology horoscope of Shri Man
Mohan Singh; but the same is also conjunct with lord of ninth. The union of ninth
and tenth lords in any of strong houses of vedic astrology horoscope is considered
to be the most auspicious combination of planets or Raj Yoga. Shri Manmohan Singh
is one of the most knowledgeable and the only Prime Minister of India since Shri
Jawaharlal Nehru to return to power after completing a full five-year term.

Therefore, Mercury when strong, positive and placed in Kendra Bhavas of vedic
astrology horoscope of a person, is quite capable of blessing the native with
courage, knowledge and success in his life. For professional astrology readings of

Astrologically, there are some places of intelligence in a chart. House 2 refers to

the knowledge given in school and colleges, house 4 is related with emotions and
house 5 is related with brain cells. Similarly, planets and their signs are very
closely related with intelligence. All know that the Sun is a source of heat and
light energy as well as illumination. It enlightens our consciousness.
Intelligibility is itself illumination. Thus Sun in strong state in a given chart
agitates the brain cells of the native and increases his Atmabala (self confidence)
and Atmagyanam (self knowledge) soaring his intelligence to change the appearance,
physical prowess and spiritualism. This is supported by a research work carried at
California University by neuropsychologist Michael Persinger and neurologist V. S.
Ramchandran that human brain possesses a very sensitive place called God-Spot which
becomes active at the time of spiritual discussion (this is verified by Positron
Emission Topography of the brain). In fact, Sun radiates spiritual energy which is
received by those persons who have Sun in strong state in their charts and thus it
helps them to get rid of claim, demand and desires of physical, emotional and
mental domain. This phenomenon is enhanced when Sun is associated or aspected by
Jupiter.

Lord Sri Krishna presented versatile paths of intelligence such as Gnana yoga,
Samkhya yoga, Bhakti yoga and Kanna yoga. In his chart Sun in own sign Leo is
associated with Jupiter in the house of emotions. This is a beneficial association
that shakes the conscious mind and indicates the benevolent, just, placid and
peaceful nature of the native. The association is aspected by philosophical Saturn
(Lord of 9th & 10th house) and activated by the disposition of Mercury in its sign
of exaltation Virgo in the house of intelligence. This type of planetary position
sparks the brain cells of the native for religious, spiritual and philosophical
intelligence. Hindu mythology stresses upon to get rid of desires and to move
towards renunciation. However, Sri Krishna suggested the asceticism or renunciation
not as the path of salvation for which one might indulge in his work without the
temptation of its fruits. The philosophy of work was created by the aspect of 10th
lord (Saturn) on divine Sun-Jupiter association.

Mercury and its signs Gemini and Virgo govern cerebrospinal system i.e. brain &
nerves. It is observed that Mercury in Gemini is very mental and in Virgo it is
very commercial. If Sun or Mercury or both are in either sign Gemini or Virgo, the
nervous system of the native becomes sensitive extraordinarily. The Virgo sign is
very creative and hence Mercury in Virgo creates a huge mental energy which
provides intrinsic growth of intelligence of mental and commercial exercise. Such
natives may adopt their carrier as a teacher, writer, reporter, editor, orator,
market analyser or trader.

When Mercury occupies its own sign in any cardinal house, Bhadra yoga (one of the
Panch Mahapurusha Yoga) and when it is with Sun, Budh-Aditya Yoga emerge out. Both
these yogas are synonym of intelligence and predict human excellence for
auspicious, gracious, prosperous, noble and social nature with high value of lQ, EQ
and SQ. If Sun and Mercury are together in the 4th or 8th house from the ascendant,
the native will be equal to a king in power, wealth and qualities; in other houses
this combination makes one virtuous (Prithuyas in Horasara).

Venus is beauty, love, lust, fashion and passion. When it is under the influence of
Sun or Jupiter, its lust, fashion and passion get sublimated and it starts to
radiate energy of literatural philosophical and spiritual intelligibility. Thus
combinations Sun-Mercury-Venus, Mercury- Venus, Mercury-Jupiter- Venus are
significant for divine intelligence, proficiency in writing skills, fluency in talk
and proximity to a king. Such natives do not spend their inherent energy in slander
and hence are always happy with unique individuality.

Chart of Dr. Radhakrishnan shows Mercury- Venus in Virgo and hence Bhadra yoga in
ascendant that conferred on him philosophical and spiritual intelligence; generous
and virtuous nature as well as highest post in government. He was blessed with high
IQ, EQ and SQ , name, fame and prosperity.

Ascendant and its lord play a significant role in the life of the native as when
they are in strong position, they bestow mental and biological strength to the
native. A good position of ascendant lord in the chart makes the native benevolent,
morally excellent with sweet temperament, attractive personality, good
individuality and firm decisive nature. Two yogas made by the characteristic
position of the ascendant lord are Kahal yoga and Parvat yoga. In Kahal yoga
observe the sign where the ascendant lord is posited and where the lord of that
sign is posited. The lords of both these signs should be posited in either own or
exaltation sign identical with kendra or trikona. In Parvat yoga observe where the
ascendant lord is posited, the lord of that sign be posited in either own or
exaltation sign identical with kendra or trikona. Such natives are full of courage,
endurance, enthusiasm and intelligence.

Sagittarius and Pisces are mutable-fiery and mutable-watery signs respectively

affecting our cerebrospinal region and hence influence super conscious mind. Both
these signs and their lord Jupiter make the God-spot very active and sensitive so
that the brain becomes very swift to grasp the matter of religion and philosophy.
Therefore, these signs and their lord Jupiter govern introspectional, emotional,
philosophical and spiritual intelligence. It is observed that worlds great
philosophers and spiritual scholars were born with strong Jupiter posited in sign
either own or exaltation. Evangelised Adams says that Scrates was a Saggitarion. In
chart of Shri Chaitanya and Bal Gangadhar Tilak Jupiter is in his own sign
Sagittarius and Pisces respectively, in case of Shri Aurobindo the Jupiter is in
sign of exaltation (Cancer).

Sagittarius born personalities of high repute are Swami Vivekananda, President Dr.
Abdul Kalam, Prime-Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, Dr. Amartya Sen and founder of
Reliance group Dhiru Bhai Ambani. All are very intelligent in their respective
fields and earned good name, fame and prosperity. Ascendant lord Jupiter in their
charts are in strong state occupying 8th to 11th house from the ascendant. Here,
the Jupiter is not poor in 8th house because of his sign of exaltation, and in 9,
10 and 11th houses it gains positional strength.

Rabindra Nath Tagore was born in Pisces ascendant. His chart shows Budha-Aditya,
Parvat, Parijat, Saraswati and some other yogas. The ascendant lord Jupiter is in
Cancer (sign of exaltation) strengthening the ascendant by its aspect. The chart is
further strengthened by exalted Sun conjoined with Mercury and Venus, that rendered
him a man of great artistic, poetic, political, philosophical and writing
intelligence in addition to generous, ingenious, virtuous and versatile nature. He
achieved the peak of reputation spread all over the world as he was awarded with
Noble Prize on November 13, 1913 for his book Geetanjali.

When Jupiter influences Mercury, the native gets astrological intelligence.

Similarly, if Jupiter and Saturn both influence Sun, Moon and Mercury, the native
gets mythological and religious intelligence. Although Saturn stands for
detraction, misfortune and obstacles, yet it becomes ascetic and philosophical when
associated with good planets. Then Saturn concentrates the mental energy to give
sobriety to the native inclining him to deep and divine contemplation. In the chart
of Dr. B. V. Raman, an astrologer of modern times, Moon and Jupiter are cardinal
making Kesari yoga. Jupiter aspects Saturn and Sun and simultaneously Saturn
aspects the Sun. All planets except Sun and Rahu-Ketu are in cardinal houses. In
chart of another astrologer K. N. Rao Moon and Jupiter are cardinal making Kesari
yoga. Mercury is in its own sign Virgo and it is aspected by Saturn from
Sagittarius. Jupiter is exalted in 10th house making powerful Hansa yoga. The chart
of the writer of this paper is benedicted by Mercury-Jupiter conjunction in Gemini
and aspect of Jupiter on Mars and Saturn.

Venus is a planet of arts, beauty, love, romance and physical pleasures. In strong
state it induces the native for artistic skills such as acting, dancing, painting,
singing, writing etc. These skills are enhanced by Moon-Venus, Mars-Venus, Venus-
Rahu in signs Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio and Pisces. Amazingly,
Moon, Mars and Rahu stimulate the Venus for glamorous and physical deeds but Sun,
Mercury and Jupiter sublimate its exorbitant passion. Therefore, the combinations
Sun-Mercury- Venus, Mercury-Jupiter- Venus and Mercury- Venus infer literary,
philosophical and spiritual intelligence. Examples are Saint Ramanuja, Sri
Aurobindo, Rabindranath Tagore, Pt. Motilal Nehru, Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, Dr.
Radhakrishna, Karl Marx.

Venus alone has given artistic skills in some particular signs Gemini, Virgo,
Libra, Scorpio and Pisces and to some extent in Cancer and Leo in the charts of
many cine artists, viz, Ashok Kumar, Anil Kapoor, Aamir Khan, Anuradha Podwal,
Dharmender, Girish Karnad, Jai Lalita, Karishma Kapoor, Lata Mangeshkar, Mala
Sinha, Madhuri Dixit, Rekha, Raj Kapoor, Sadhana, Shobhna Samartha. Mars- Venus
predominate in the charts of Meena Kumari, Dimple, Preeti Zinta, Madonna, Salman
Khan while Venus-Rahu predominate in the charts of Nargis, Karina Kapoor and
Suraiya.

Although Mars, Saturn and Rahu are logical planets and good for power, position and
political intelligence in upchaya houses 3, 6, 10 and 11, yet they are known for
dispute, strife and violence as they provide spirit of aggression, insatiable
ambitions and unscrupulous intelligence to achieve aims of life. Thus Mars-Rahu,
Mars-Saturn and Saturn-Rahu generate hypocrisy and suspicious personality of the
native. Mercury in their proximity or in their constellation reduces activity and
sensitivity of brain cells and hence the intelligibility of the native unless it is
influenced by Jupiter. The association Mars-Mercury, Mercury-Rahu leads to interest
in mathematical problems, competitive problems and to fulfill the ambitions of
life. Such natives, if not guided properly may be inclined towards wrong deeds such
as theft, scams, smuggling etc.

What! Those giants of old, who never walked but strode, of whom if you were but to
think for a moment you would be shriveled into a moth, they, Sir, had time, and you
have no time!

During his wanderings in the Himalayas, he was once the guest of a Tibetan family
and was scandalized to see that polyandry was practised by its members; six
brothers sharing a common wife. To the Swami's protest, the eldest brother replied
that a Tibetan would consider it selfishness to enjoy a good thing all by himself
and not share it with his brothers. After deep thought the Swami realized the
relativity of ethics. He saw that many so-called good and evil practices had their
roots in the traditions of society. One might argue for or against almost anything.
The conventions of a particular society should be judged by its own standards.
After that experience, the Swami was reluctant to condemn hastily the traditions of
any social group.

One day Swamiji was sharing a railway compartment with two Englishmen, who took him
for an illiterate beggar and began to crack jokes in English at his expense. At the
next station they were astonished to hear him talking with the station-master in
perfect English. Embarrassed, they asked him why he had not protested against their
rude words. With a smile, the Swami replied, 'Friends, this is not the first time
that I have seen fools.' The Englishmen became angry and wanted a fight. But
looking at the Swami's strong body, they thought that discretion was the better
part of valour, and apologized. In a certain place in Rajputana, the Swami was busy
for three days and nights by people seeking religious instruction. Nobody cared
about his food or rest. After they left, a poor man belonging to a low caste
offered him, with great hesitation, some uncooked food, since he, being an
untouchable, was afraid to give him a prepared meal. The Swami, however, persuaded
the kind-hearted man to prepare the meal for him and ate it with relish. Shedding
tears of gratitude, the Swami said to himself, 'Thousands of such good people live
in huts, and we despise them as untouchables!'

In Central India he had to pass many hard days without food or shelter, and it was
during this time that he lived with a family of outcaste sweepers and discovered
the many priceless spiritual virtues of those people, who cowered at the feet of
society. Their misery choked him and he sobbed: 'Oh, my country! Oh, my country!'

To resume the story of Swamiji's wandering life: From Cape Comorin he walked most
of the way to Madras, stopping at Ramnad and Pondicherry. His fame had already
spread to the premier city of South India, and he was greeted by a group of
enthusiastic young men. In Madras he publicly announced his intention of going to
America. His devotees here collected funds for the trip, and it was through them
that he later started his Indian work in an organized form.

Here, in Madras, he poured his whole soul into the discussion of religion,
philosophy, science, literature, and history. He would blaze up at people who, for
lack of time or zeal, did not practise meditation. 'What!' he thundered at a
listener. 'Those giants of old, the ancient rishis, who never walked but strode,
standing by whose side you would shrivel into a moth they, sir, had time for
meditation and devotions, and you have none!'

To a scoffer he said: 'How dare you criticize your venerable forefathers in such a
fashion? A little learning has muddled your brain. Have you tested the wisdom of
the rishis? Have you even as much as read the Vedas? There is a challenge thrown by
the rishis. If you dare oppose them, take it up.'

At Hyderabad, the capital of the Nizam's State, he gave his first public lecture,
the subject being 'My Mission to the West.' The audience was impressed and the
Swami was pleased to see that he could hold his own in this new field of activity.

When the devotees in Madras brought him the money for his voyage to America, he
refused to accept it and asked them to distribute it among the poor. How was he to
know that the Lord wanted him to go to America? Perhaps he was being carried away
by his own ambition. He began to pray intensely for divine guidance. Again money
was offered to him by some of his wealthy friends, and again he refused. He said to
his disciples: 'If it is the Mother's wish that I should go to the West, then let
us collect money from the people. It is for them that I am going to the West for
the people and the poor!'

The Swami one day had a symbolic dream, in which he saw Sri Ramakrishna walking
into the water of the ocean and beckoning him to follow. He also heard the
authoritative word 'Go!' In response to a letter that he had written to Sarada
Devi, the Holy Mother, she gave him her blessings for the fulfilment of his desire,
knowing that it was Ramakrishna's wish that he should undertake the journey to
America. And now, at last, he felt sure of his call.

When everything was arranged for the departure, there suddenly arrived in Madras
the private secretary of Swamiji's disciple the Raja of Khetri, bearing the happy
news of the birth of a royal son. The Swami was earnestly desired to bless the heir
apparent. He consented, and the Raja was overjoyed to see him.
At Khetri an incident occurred that the Swami remembered all his life. He was
invited by the Maharaja to a musical entertainment in which a nautch-girl was to
sing, and he refused to come, since he was a monk and not permitted to enjoy
secular pleasures. The singer was hurt and sang in a strain of lamentation. Her
words reached the Swami's ears:

Look not, O Lord, upon my sins!

Is not Same-sightedness Thy name?
One piece of iron is used
Inside the holy shrine,
Another for the knife
Held in the butcher's hand;
Yet both of these are turned to gold
When touched by the philosophers' stone.
Sacred the Jamuna's water,
Foul the water in the ditch;
Yet both alike are sanctified
Once they have joined the Ganga's stream.
So, Lord, look not upon my sins!
Is not Same-sightedness Thy name?

The Swami was deeply moved. This girl, whom society condemned as impure, had taught
him a great lesson: Brahman, the Ever Pure, Ever Free, and Ever Illumined, is the
essence of all beings. Before God there is no distinction of good and evil, pure
and impure. Such pairs of opposites become manifest only when the light of Brahman
is obscured by maya. A sannyasin ought to look at all things from the standpoint of
Brahman. He should not condemn anything, even a so-called impure person.

The Swami then joined the party and with tears in his eyes said to the girl:
'Mother, I am guilty. I was about to show you disrespect by refusing to come to
this room. But your song awakened my consciousness.'

There are two great obstacles on our path in India - the Scylla of the old
orthodoxy, and the Charybdis of modern European civilization. Of those two, I vote
for the old orthodoxy and not for the Europeanized system; for the old orthodox
people may be ignorant, they may be crude, but they are real human beings, they
have faith, they have strength, they stand on their own feet; while Europeanized
people have no backbone, they are a mass of heterogeneous ideas picked up at random
from every source - and these ideas are unassimilated, undigested, unharmonized.
They do not stand on their own feet, and their heads are turning round and round.
Where is the motive power of their work? In a few, patronizing pats from the
English people. Their schemes of reforms, their vehement vituperations against the
evils of certain social customs have, as the mainspring, some European patronage.
Why are some of our customs called evil? Because the Europeans say so. That is
about the reason they give. I would not submit to that. Stand and die in your own
strength; if there is any sin the world, it is weakness. Avoid all weakness, for
weakness is sin, weakness is death. These unbalanced creatures are not yet formed
into distinct personalities. What are we to call them - men, women, or animals? On
the other hand, these old, orthodox people were staunch, and were real human
beings.(50)

A pandit asked Swami Vivekananda if there was any harm in giving up sandhyavandanam
or prayers performed in the morning, noon and evening, which he had had to do for
lack of time. "What!" cried out the swami, almost with ferocity, "Those giants of
old, the ancient rishis, who never walked, but strode - the like of whom, if you
are to think [of] for a moment, you would be shriveled into a moth - they, sir, had
time and you have none!" When a Westernized Hindu spoke in a belittling manner of
the "meaningless teachings" of the Vedic seers, the swami fell upon him with
thunderbolt vehemence, crying out, "Man, a little learning has muddled your brain!
How dare you criticize your venerable forebears, how dare you bastardize the blood
of the rishis in your veins by speaking in such a fashion! Have you tested the
science of the rishis? Have you even so much as read the Vedas? There is the
challenge thrown by the rishis! If you dare oppose them, take it up, put their
teachings to the test, and they shall not be found wanting! What is making this
race contemptible is just such intellectual bigotry and lop-sidedness as you
manifest!"(51)

What do we want in India? If foreigners want [the teachings of the Upanishads] we

want them twenty times more. Because, in spite of the greatness of the Upanishads,
in spite of our boasted ancestry of sages, I must tell you that, compared with many
other races, we are weak, very weak. First of all is our physical weakness. That
physical weakness is the cause of at least one third of our miseries. We are lazy,
we cannot work, we cannot combine, we do not love each other; we are intensely
selfish, no three of us can come together without hating each other, without being
jealous of each other. That is the state in which we are - hopelessly disorganized
mobs, immensely selfish, fighting each other for centuries as to whether a certain
mark is to be put on our foreheads this way or that, writing volumes and volumes
upon such momentous questions as to whether the look of someone spoils my food or
not! This we have been doing for the past few centuries. We cannot expect anything
from a race whose whole brain energy has been occupied in such wonderfully
beautiful problems and researches! And are we not ashamed of ourselves? Ay,
sometimes we are; but though we think these things frivolous, we cannot give them
up. We speak of many things parrot-like, but never do them; speaking and not doing
has become a habit with us. What is the cause of that? Physical weakness. This sort
of weak brain is not able to do anything; we must strengthen it.(52)

What we want is shraddha, [faith]. Unfortunately, it has nearly vanished from
India, and that is why we are in our present state. What makes the difference
between person and person is the difference in this shraddha, and nothing else.
What makes one person great and another weak and low is this shraddha This
shraddha must enter into you. Whatever material power you see manifested by the
Western races is the outcome of this shraddha, because they believe in their
muscles; and if you believe in your Spirit, how much more will it work? Believe in
that infinite Soul, the infinite power which, with consensus of opinion, your books
and sages preach. That Atman, which nothing can destroy, is, in Its infinite power
and glory, only waiting to be called out. For here is the great difference between
all other philosophies and the Indian philosophy, whether dualistic, qualified
monistic, or monistic - they all firmly believe that everything is in the Soul
itself. It has only to come out and manifest itself. Therefore, this shraddha is
what I want, and what all of us here want - this faith in ourselves; and before you
is the great task to get that faith. Give up the awful disease that is creeping
into our national blood, that idea of ridiculing everything, that loss of
seriousness. Give that up. Be strong and have shraddha, and everything else is
bound to follow. (53)

Would you believe me, we have less faith than the Englishman or woman - a thousand
times less faith! These are plain words, but I say them; I cannot help it. Dont
you see how the Englishmen and women, when they catch our ideals, become mad, as it
were; and, although they are the ruling class, they come to India to preach our own
religion, notwithstanding the jeers and ridicule of their own countrymen? How many
of you [Indians] could do that? And why cannot you do it? Do you not know why? You
know more than they do; you are more wise than is good for you, that is your
difficulty! Simply because your blood is like water, your brain sloughing, your
body is weak! You must change the body. Physical weakness is the cause, and nothing
else. You have talked of reforms, of ideals, and all these things for the past
hundred years, but when it comes to practice you are not to be found anywhere -
till you have disgusted the whole world, and the very name of reform is a thing of
ridicule! And what is the cause? Do you not know? You know too well. The only cause
is that you are weak, you have no faith in yourselves! Centuries and centuries, a
thousand years of crushing tyranny of castes and kings and foreigners and your own
people have taken out all your strength. Your backbone is broken, you are like
downtrodden worms. Who will give you strength? Let me tell you, strength, strength
is what we want. And the first step in getting strength is to uphold the
Upanishads, and believe "I am the Soul", "me the sword cannot cut, nor instruments
pierce, me the fire cannot burn, me the air cannot dry; I am the omnipotent, I am
the omniscient." [Gita 2.24] So repeat those blessed, saving words. Do not say we
are weak; we can do anything and everything. What can we not do? Everything can be
done by us. We all have the same, glorious Soul; let us believe in it.(54)
