General Information
The following release notes contain information about the new PanelView Plus 6 (PVP6)
Firmware Upgrade Package for all the associated enhancements and anomalies listed below. The
updates have been included in PanelView Plus 6 Firmware Upgrade Package 8.20-20170706,
available for download from the Rockwell Automation Support Webpage. For the download
link, see the How to Get Firmware Updates section.

PanelView Plus 6 Firmware Upgrade Package 8.20-20170706 contains updates for PanelView
Plus 6 terminals.

PanelView Plus 6 Firmware Upgrade Package 8.20-20170706 includes no enhancement.

Note: Third party applications may need to be reinstalled after performing a Firmware Upgrade
on the PanelView Plus 6 terminal. The FactoryTalk View ME startup application may also need
to be reconfigured.

Known Anomalies
The following anomalies have been identified in the PanelView Plus 6 Firmware Upgrade
Package 8.20-20170706 release.

ID Anomaly
If you use at least two pens with
the display option to isolate the
289734 graphs, the colors of the pens will
no longer match the legend and
will appear offset.
Date of backup file is not updated

Description
Workaround:
Adding and using a Next Pen button
aligns the legend with the pen.
If display properties (screen saver,
appearance, etc.) are changed, and
the backup file is then created
(overwriting existing file), the file
date that is shown in Windows
Explorer is not updated but is still the
date the file was overwritten.

Default background image is
always selected after user restores

An image other than the default is
selected for the desktop background
and a backup operation is performed.
A Terminal Reset is then performed
and the backup file is restored. When
the terminal runs, the desktop
background image shown is the
default instead of the image selected
before the backup was performed.

When to Perform an Update

If any of the listed anomalies appear similar or identical to symptoms experienced on your
terminal’s software or hardware, it is highly recommended that you perform an update to the
listed firmware release to resolve any potential issues.

How to Get Firmware Updates

FactoryTalk View Machine Edition Station Firmware Updates are available from the following

After signing in, a selection of updates will become available for download. Here is an example
of what you will see at the Web location:

1. Select the type of terminal you want to update.

2. Select the version of the firmware upgrade package desired, and click Downloads.

Note: Only select the FactoryTalk View Machine Edition Station Release version that
applies to your actual hardware configuration. The available selections may appear
different from what is shown here.

PanelView Plus 6 Firmware Upgrade Package 8.20-20160308 contains updates for PanelView
Plus 6 terminals.

PanelView Plus 6 Firmware Upgrade Package 8.20-20160308 includes the following new
features:

 Support for the electronic signature function to record and secure the execution of an
action at run time.
 Support for the enhanced inactivity timeout function to execute advanced automatic
logout actions.
 Support for new expanded functional capabilities:
o Chart ActiveX control - Utilizes two user-defined data types (UDTs), Chart and
DataSeries, to create a data structure.
o CSVDataLog ActiveX control - Supports a minimum periodic logging rate of
250ms and generates CSV data log files which contain tamper detection strings.
 Show terminal names in the RSLinx Enterprise device browser.
