Pronomes Indefinidos

SOME ___________________________________________________________________
ANY _____________________________________________________________________
NO ______________________________________________________________________

In general, we use some in affirmative sentences and any in negative sentences before nouns.

Some

Any

Attention
We use any after words with a negative meaning (never, hardly, without, etc).
•• He went out without any money.
•• He never does any homework.

In most questions we use any.

•• Is there any food left?
•• Do you need any help?

But we use some when we offer or ask something.

•• Would you like some tea?
•• Can I have some sugar please?

Any is used after if.

•• If you have any problem, just call me.

It is also possible to use any in affirmative sentences with the meaning ‘it doesn’t matter which’.
•• You can take any bus. They all go downtown.

No is used in affirmative sentences with the same meaning as not any.

•• I have no money. (= I don’t have any money)

COMPOUNDS
We use the compounds (-thing, -body, -one, -where, etc) when we don’t have a noun after the
indefinite pronoun.
-thing ……………………..
-body ……………………..
-one ………………………
-where ……………………
-time ……………………...
-how ………………………

I’m hungry. I want something to eat.
