In general, we use some in affirmative sentences and any in negative sentences before nouns.
Some
She gave me some flowers. I need to buy some new clothes.
I heard some noise at the door. There’s still some wine in the bottle.
Any
They didn’t buy any flowers. I didn’t buy any new book this month.
She’s lazy. She never does any work. You can’t go out without any shoes.
Attention
We use any after words with a negative meaning (never, hardly, without, etc).
•• He went out without any money.
•• He never does any homework.

It is also possible to use any in affirmative sentences with the meaning ‘it doesn’t matter which’.
•• You can take any bus. They all go downtown.
COMPOUNDS
We use the compounds (-thing, -body, -one, -where, etc) when we don’t have a noun after the
indefinite pronoun.
