PADO SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

A. Configuration of PADO system:

The PADO system hardware component consists of Servers, Workstations, and Printer. High
end Servers are provided for Optimization and Diagnostics functions separately. These servers
acquire data required for calculations through a suitable interface from DCS. Workstations are
connected to these servers in LAN to display / view various PADO screens. Reliable ISDN
connectivity to PADO server is required to be privided by owner on 24X7 basis for remote
connectivity for installation of PADO softwares , accessing live / archived data for fine tuning ,
analysis.

B. Various Software Modules in PADO carry out the following functions :

1. Performance analysis and monitoring of systems and components.
 Heat rates
 Plant efficiencies & performances
 Equipment efficiencies & performances.
 Evaluation of controllable losses & impact of single components.
 Visualization of component efficiencies & performances

2. Emission analysis and monitoring.

 Emission monitoring of SOX, CO, NOX, Opacity

3. System and performance diagnosis.

 Detects abnormalities in the process and warns operating personal to take corrective
action.
 Equipment health Diagnosis for HIGH & LOW pressures, temperatures, level and
vibration.
 Plant performance diagnosis for boiler, turbine, condenser, feed water and regenerative
heating system.

4. System and performance optimization.

 Set Point optimization indicating actual & optimum value for parameters like Excess
air,Burner tilt, MS temperature etc.

5. Boiler performance optimization including optimized operation of soot blower system.

 Backward & Forward calculation, Zonal heat absorption, Fouling factor.
 Metal temperature calculation, Fuel switching capability.
 WHAT-IF Capability.
 Soot blowing optimization.

6. Boiler stress condition analysis.

 Continuously acquires operating temperature and pressures for thick walled
components and calculates the resulting contributions from creep & fatigue.
 Lifetime monitoring.

7. Interactive water and gas chemistry management system.
 Messages to operators, advise to chemist, and advise to maintenance staff based on
following :
 Fault trees for conductivity of DM Makeup water, Hotwell condensate, feed
water, condensate, saturated steam, main steam, drum water.
 Fault trees for conductivity of DM Makeup water cation, feed water cation,
condensate cation, saturated steam, main steam cation.
 Fault trees for pH value of condensate feed water, saturated steam, main
steam, drum water.

8. Regenerative Cycle Performance Optimisation

This consists of following :

 The deviation of performance of the turbine cycle is examined by the deviation of
important parameters of the turbine cycle.
 Actual efficiency of individual stages of turbine.
 Evaluation of LPH and HPH performance by comparing current values of TTD / DCA
to the reference values.
 Heater level evaluation.
