Statement of the Problem

This research study entitled “Psychosocial and Psychological effects of Acne to

Teenagers” aims to describe the relationship between acne and teenagers. Specifically it

seeks to answer the following research questions:

1. Does acne really have a negative effect to teenagers?

2. Does this burden oneself psychosocially and psychologically?

3. How does a person with acne cope up with the negative effect that comes with it?

CHAPTER III
METHODOLOGY

This chapter presents the procedures undertaken by the researchers throughout the

conduct of the study. It enumerates in detail the methods used and the reliability and

validation measures utilized to ensure that the research is fair, objective and ethical.

Research Design

The study is a cross-sectional study which is a type of observational study that evaluates

data from a population, or a smaller group, at a certain point in time—that is, cross-

sectional data in which an observational survey conducted with subjects in the Junior

High School students of the University of Perpetual Help System Biñan, Laguna. The

research design addresses the pressing problem of acne to the socializing skills and

mental health of the teenagers in today’s generation. Teenagers knowledge about

adolescence and acne is very limited, learning and knowing more about it are essential to

support them in preventing the negative effect of acne to them; psychosocially and

psychologically.

Research Locale

The study will take place on the grade school building of the University of Perpertual

Help System JONELTA. We will conduct a survey to junior high school students; Grade

8-10. We will conduct our study in school because students are tends to socialize every

day in school that’s why they are most likely prone to the side effects of acne in their

daily basis.
Research Sample

In this study we will use stratified sampling in which the population is first separated into

subgroups (or strata) who all share a comparable characteristic. It is used when we might

rationally expect the measurement of interest to vary between the different subgroups,

and we want to confirm representation from all the subgroups. The study sample is then

attained by taking equal sample sizes from each division. In stratified sampling, it may

also be suitable to select non-equal sample sizes from each stratum.

Research Instrument

What will you use to gather data? Describe it. Is it a 10-item Open ended questionnaire?

How was its reliability and validity established? We will conduct a survey by the use of a

(20)- item open ended questionnaire. It will be established by content validity evidence

which is proven by inspecting a test questionnaire to see whether they correspond to what

the researcher decides should be covered by the test. This questionnaire may be

considered a reliable test, but not necessarily a valid measure of the socializing skill and a

mental health of a teenager’s in 8th to 10th grade.

Data Gathering Procedures

We will gather data by surveying to our specific respondents which are the grade 8 -10

students. It actually involves collecting responses from the respondents through a written

medium. You will be handling out paper questionnaires for your respondents to answer.

We will then tally the results.

Analysis of Data

How will you make sense of the data? Will you be using Descriptive or inferential

statistics? Will you be using tables and graphs to present the data? What formula will you

be using? Why?
