 Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Bogibeel bridge, India’s longest


railroad bridge in Assam. Till now Vembanad rail bridge in Kerala was dubbed
as the longest railway-bridge in India at 4.62km of length.
o It is India’s only fully welded bridge for which european codes and welding
standards were adhered to for the first time in the country.

 The Indian Navy commissioned its 10th Naval Hostipal Ship named „INHS
Sandhani‟ at the Naval station Karanja in Uran near Mumbai, Maharashtra.
o It has a team of specialists in the fields of medicine, surgery, gynaecology,
paediatrics, anaesthesia and dental sciences.

 A 25 feet high statue of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee will be
installed in the Lok Bhawan in Lucknow, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath
announced. He was speaking at a function held to celebrate the 94th birth
anniversary of the late leader.

 Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar announced to name all the Child
Care Institutes being run in the state as „Jagannath Ashrams.‟
o The Chief Minister made this announcement while addressing the people
during a dance competition organised by women wing of All India Vaish
Federation, in Karnal.

 Union Minister for Science and Technology and Environment Harsh Vardhan
said India is firmly on its course to become one of the top two scientifically
advanced nations in the world by 2030.
o The minister said the country has made significant progress in the fields of
nano technology, space science under the Narendra Modi government.

INTERNATIONAL NEWS

 The first meeting of the Follow-up Committee for implementation of the


Trilateral Chabahar Agreement between India, Afghanistan and Iran was

held in the port city of Chabahar in Iran.
o The meeting was held at the level of Joint Secretary or Director General.

 Researchers from California Institute of Technology, United States of America


(USA) made world‟s smallest tic-tac-toe game board using dynamic DNA
microscopic organic structures that can be programmed to transform into
predesigned patterns.
o DNA consists of a backbone and four types of molecules known as bases.
These bases are adenine, guanine, cytosine, and thymine.

APPOINTMENTS

 BVP Rao has been elected as the president of the Archery Association of India
in the polls held under a High Court-appointed administrator.
o Rao, who represented Archery Association of Assam, beat Rupak Debroy
of Tripura at the elections held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New
Delhi.

AWARDS

 Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh released the list of top 10 performing
police stations across the nation. The list was announced in the 3-day Inaugural
Session of the DGPs or IGPs Conference in Gujarat.
o The top three police stations in India for 2018 are Kalu (Bikaner,
Rajasthan), Campbell Bay (Andaman & Nicobar Islands) and Farakka
(Murshidabad, West Bengal).

 India’s Arjun Bhati bagged the first position against Americas Aksel Moe during
the three-level final match in the US Kids Junior Golf World Championship in
Malaysia.

 National Consumer Day: 24th December


o Every Year 24th December is observed as National Consumer Day with
a specific theme in India. This year the National Consumer Day is
celebrated with the theme “Timely Disposal of Consumer Complaints”.
o On this day the Consumer Protection Act, 1986 had received the assent of
the president.
