REPORT ON OUTREACH PROGRAMME SK GUDON

TIME : 7.45 – 9.15 A.M.

DATE :29TH JUNE 2010

CLASS : 6B

LEVEL : AVERAGE

SCHOOL : SK GUDON, MENGGATAL

We were informed that the class we re assigned to teach one of mediocre to mixed – ability class.
39 pupils are enrolled in this class but only 36 were present on that day. Our class started at 7.45
a.m. to 9.15 a.m. The topic selected was places/activities. There were 5 sessions in the lesson
starting with:-

1. pre-test
2. identifying places
3. identifying activities
4. drilling in writing and,
5. post – test

During the pre-test, we observed that majority of the pupils were so slow in writing spending
considerable time hesitating on what to write. However, during the post-test, pupils were
noticeably more confident. Although there were still a very small number who needed more
guidance. We noted that they are supposed to be in the weak class.

The strength of the lesson was the drilling method used which proved as appropriate scaffolding
to the pupils. They were taught to recognize and to write names of places, family members and
suitable activity perform by them. Pictures were also provided to aid them in remembering and
connecting words to pictures.

They were also taught to construct sentences using the words taught. Different activities were
carried out to help students understand and memorize the words. Before the post-test, pupils have
to write 5 sentences 3 times as in worksheet 4.

The class was well controlled because pupils were occupied with challenging but manageable
activities. Based on the post-test, 23 students were able to write 5 correct sentences and 12 pupils
managed to, with at least 1 correct sentence. This is a marked improvement compared to the pre-
test whereby none of the pupils were able to write 5 correct sentences.
