Method statement – PERI STACKING TOWER

ST100
This method statement describes the correct working procedure to be used
when using the PERI STACKING TOWER ST100 System.

Note: To achieve the highest level of safety and thoroughess this method statement is continuously
being reviewed to ensure correctness (to suit new features and requirements). When it is revised this
document will be supplied as a new issue to the locations where the system is being used at the time
of the revision.

THIS METHOD STATEMENT IS TO BE USED/READ IN CONJUNCTION

WITH;
- The Builders and our clients/user safety method statements and procedures.
- Site safety method statements and procedures.
- PERI STACKING TOWER ST 100 product range brochure (issue 9/97).
- PERI Construction Drawings for this Project.
- Instructions as issued in writing by PERI on site supervisor.
- Proper PPE is maintained.

GENERAL CONDITIONS
The actual working practice of the client/user in his use of the equipment is beyond
the control of PERI. PERI will take no responsibility for using the system other than
what is outlined in this work method statement:

 The equipment is offered for sale and/or hire and it is the responsibility of our client/user
to ensure his working practice complies with PERI literature, local laws and all relevant
codes of practice.

 Only genuine PERI system components and accessories are to be used.

 Components should not be altered, cut or welded. Should any component show signs of
physical damage, neglect, corrosion or mistreatment, it should be replaced and not re-
used.

 Any add on items not supplied by PERI, as standard system components e.g.
handrailing, scaffolding tubes, conventional form, sole plates etc, must be designed and
installed by the client/user to suit any relevant Australian Standards or local Authority
requirements. These items must be detailed in our clients/user work method statement
and PERI takes no responsibility for these add on items.

 If in a situation there is inadequate safety/access, a safety line and harness must be

used.

 PERI takes no responsibility for the structural support of the Base Spindle. This is up to
the client/user to ensure that the induced loading can be supported and PERI takes no
responsibility for the design of this. These items must be detailed in our clients/user
work method statement

 For weights of all components and safe working loads refer PERI literature.

 The STACKING TOWER ST100 system must be assembled in strict accordance with
PERI literature and drawings. The notes on each drawing should be fully complied with
– any deviations must be approved in writing by PERI.

 PERI can advise on striking times but actual initial and final striking times are to be
approved the project Structural Engineers.

 System components must not be used for any purpose other than to suit the system
literature and construction drawings.

 System must be tied back to vertical structural elements or braced with frames or
scaffold tubes as specified on the PERI drawings.

STACKING TOWER ST100 SYSTEM

Section 1 UNLOADING;
1. Ensure unloading area is safe and clear from any obstructions/dangers (including overhead) and
proper PPE is maintained. Area should be sufficiently large enough to accept unloaded materials
and have safe access to area. Unloading area should also have good clear access to operate
handling equipment. (Crane, forklift etc.)
2. Materials to be unloaded from transport vehicle by handling equipment. Ensure handling
equipment capacity is not exceeded. (For weights of equipment refer PERI STACKING TOWER
ST100 range brochure)
3. All loads to be placed on an even surface to ensure stability of goods.

Section 2 ERECTION OF STACKING TOWER ST100;

1. Locate working area with good crane access and no overhead obstructions near erection start
point. (refer PERI construction drawings for location). Ensure proper PPE is maintained and there
is safe access to this area.
2. Inspect components during erection for any visible damage (e.g. damaged frame, ply, broken
welds etc) if unsure of component condition refer supervisor for instructions. Any damaged
components are not to be used.
3. Ensure ground conditions are adequate in supporting the towers leg loads. PERI takes no
responsibility for ground conditions or any other support below the underside of the base spindle.
(In conjunction with point 1, the method of assembly must be determined, ie. Vertical assembly or
assembly on the ground and the frame craned into position once assembled).
Vertical Assembly: where components vertically stacked.
4. Position base frame in place, adjust base spindles to proper height and level.
5. Connect stacking frames and diagonal braced as detailed in the PERI design and literature.
6. Maintain a safe working platform during the erection process.
7. Attach head frame to stacking frames.
8. Attach head spindles to correct height and adjust to the required level.
Assembly on Ground: where the stacking tower is crane lifted to position.
9. A Diagonal Brace must be fitted as detailed in PERI literature to make the tower rigid for the
crane transport.
10. Secure spindles to the stacking tower using Spindle Safety Straps, for both head and base
spindles.
11. Brace individual towers as specified in the Formwork Design.
12. Place primary members (i.e. steel beams, girders) on spindles and secure in position as specified
in the Formwork Design.
13. Proceed with the connection of secondary members.
14. Ply is fastened to the secondary members.

Section 3 STRIKING/DISASSEMBLY;
1. As specified in the GENERAL CONDITIONS section of this document, PERI can advise on
striking times but actual initial and final striking times are to be approved the project Structural
Engineers.
2. Once striking times have been approved, striking can commence. Ensure that adequate
provisions have been made to lower material safely to a cleared area and that a safe working
area is maintained at all times.
3. Begin by releasing the head spindles sequentially.
4. Dismantle the ply from the secondary beams, and then disassemble the secondary beams
followed by the primary beams and lower to the ground sequentially.
5. Dismantle head spindles and lower to the ground.
6. Dismantle stacking frames and diagonal bracing progressively from the top of the tower and
lower to the ground.

Section 4 LOADING;
1. Ensure all components have been cleaned prior to returning back to PERI
2. Ensure loading area is safe and clear from any obstructions/dangers (including overhead) and
proper PPE is maintained. Loading area should also have good clear access to operate handling
equipment.
3. Materials to be loaded onto transport vehicle by handling equipment. Ensure handling equipment
capacity is not exceeded. (For weights of equipment refer PERI STACKING TOWER ST100
range brochure)
4. All loads are then to be securely tied on transport vehicle using correct safety methods
